The Next Chapter

Posted on October 23, 2013 by Maxim Lobovsky

Today, I’m thrilled to announce that Formlabs closed a $19 million round of financing. We’ve found a great group of partners who will help us carry forward in making our vision for Formlabs a reality.

We’ve come a long way in the last two years, building a 30-person international team, launching (and very soon, completing) our Kickstarter campaign, and bringing an incredible tool to the desktops of designers, engineers, and artists around the world.

What this Means
Our new resources will allow us to serve you, our existing customers, better. We’ll ramp-up manufacturing, increase our support resources, redouble our R&D efforts, and provide better service to our customers around the world. We have a lot of work to do. We’re excited and ready to go.

Our Supporters
We owe this opportunity to you. All of our supporters—especially our Kickstarter backers who have been with us from the beginning—have provided us the encouragement that we needed to arrive where we are. As we continue to innovate, serving our present customers is our top priority.  We will continue to work hard to get through our backlog of orders and provide you the best possible customer support.

We are humbled and grateful for your encouragement, enthusiasm, and patience. We’ll make sure that you feel the benefits of the growth to come.

The Next Chapter
When we introduced the Form 1, it was a leap in sophistication and usability over what was already out there. As we’ve used it—and watched you use it, we know that we’re just at the beginning. You’ve done amazing work. The Form 1 is only the first leap of many more to come. We have a great deal planned.

We are still in the early days of desktop 3D printing, and we’re going to stay at the forefront, working to provide you with the most capable, reliable, and accessible machines. We now have the resources to make that happen.

Thanks to all of you who have joined us along the way.

cofounder, Formlabs

Dear Formlabs:

My industrial design firm, one of the most experienced and lmodest cost in Greater Boston, won an Excellence In Design 2013 award for its sleek design of the Solidscape (Stratasys) 3Z Studio desktop printer. We designed all of Solidscape’s, very high resolution 3D printers since 1990.

We can help Formlabs grow by providing rapid, efficient, low cost industrial design and mechanical engineering for packaging: sleek design, excellent ergonomics, DFM&A for easy part design in molded plastic, sheet metal, and COTS parts to reduce costs. Check out our website with award-winning designs:

FYI, I am one of the few industrial designers also degreed and heavily experienced in ME. I mentored ME students at MIT in anticipation of creating an industrial design program there.

I look forward to speaking with you!
Best regards,
Bob DeFelice,

Well after a very long wait my printer has arrived in Perth Australia. Thank you guys, I will pick it up tonight and have a couple of prints done over the weekend, the first being a bangle and dolls flower pot for my wee girl.

Cheers Ant
