Following extensive testing by our materials team, this chart shows observed solvent compatibility with Formlabs resin. Resistance to solvents is measured by observing, measuring and weighing cured resin cubes before and after soaking in the solvent for 24 hours. The resin cubes measure 1x1x1 cm and were printed in 50 microns in both clear and flexible resin.
Parts exposed to this solvent should not experience a decrease in mechanical properties.
≤1% weight gain, ≤1% width increase over 24 hours for a 1x1x1 cm cube
A = Acceptable resistance
Parts exposed to this solvent may experience a small decrease in mechanical properties.
1-2% weight gain, 1-2% width increase over 24 hours for a 1x1x1 cm cube
U = Unacceptable resistance
Parts exposed to this solvent will experience a significant decrease in mechanical properties and/or visible degradation.
>2% weight gain, >2% width increase over 24 hours for a 1x1x1 cm cube
Using Isopropyl Alcohol
While we do recommend soaking parts in IPA, make sure not to leave your part in the rinse basket for longer than the recommended two rinses of 10 minutes because the cured resin is not resistant to IPA. For prints with thin walls, we recommended leaving the part in IPA for even less time.
