Technology

Selective Laser Sintering (SLS)

The Fuse 1+ 30W is the first benchtop industrial-grade SLS 3D printer that offers a compact footprint and contained environment, with a streamlined workflow that supports automation at a fraction of the cost of traditional industrial SLS systems.

Selective Laser Sintering (SLS)

The Sinterit Lisa X is another compact SLS printer offered at a comparable price point. However, it relies on a highly manual workflow within a partially open environment, which results in a more complex user experience and higher risk of powder dispersion.

Materials

Six Validated Materials

The Fuse 1+ 30W currently enables six high-performance materials with fine-tuned settings that are undergoing constant testing and improving through software updates to ensure peak performance. Formlabs not only meticulously tunes settings, but also updates the printing process to enable new materials.

Available now: Nylon 12, Glass-Filled Nylon 12, Nylon 11, Carbon Fiber-Filled Nylon 11, TPU 90A and Polypropylene Powders. More materials in development.

Two Validated Materials

The Sinterit Lisa X currently has validated print profiles for Nylon 12 and Nylon 11.  Other materials, including third-party powders, can be printed using open print parameters for a fee, and settings need to be adjusted by the user. The compatibility of the existing settings with third-party materials is limited and requires a time-consuming and frustrating trial-and-error process for users to establish suitable settings, ultimately leading to wasted time and materials.

Ease of Use

Plug and Print
From print setup to part cleaning, the Fuse Series ecosystem's easy-to-use hardware and software are designed to maximize your efficiency at every step of the process. Easy workflow empowers anyone at your company to use the system independently after a quick online or in-person training.

Training Required

The complex Sinterit Lisa X's workflow requires training and experience to operate, due to the lengthy print setup and manual tasks. The steeper learning curve means that it’s recommended to have a skilled technician to operate and maintain the printer.

Print Speed

Same-Day Parts

The Fuse 1+ 30W is designed for nonstop throughput and can produce parts twice as fast as the Sinterit Lisa X. It comes with a high-power laser, removable build chamber, and industry-leading cooldown times, allowing you to start new prints within 1-2 hours after the previous print has finished and minimize downtime. Enable same-day delivery for small prints or deliver a full build within 24 hours.

Slow Turnover

The Lisa X doesn't have a removable build chamber, so each build needs to fully cool down inside the printer before carrying out maintenance and starting the next print. This means that you can only start a new build every second day. Taking into consideration warmup time, print speed, and cooldown time, it takes about twice as long to produce a part than it would on Fuse 1+ 30W.

Post-processing

Fast and Automated

Go from printed to finished parts in as little as 15 minutes with the streamlined Fuse post-processing ecosystem. Fuse Sift is a safe, efficient powder recovery system that filters, measures, mixes, and stores powder, while Fuse Blast, a fully automated media blaster, delivers 100% hands-free part cleaning and polishing, for professional parts with minimal manual labor.

Lengthy Manual Workflow

Sinterit offers manual solutions for powder handling and part cleaning. The lack of automation in the workflow requires users to manually transfer, measure, pour, brush, and mix powders in open-air environments in multiple workflow stages. Manually cleaning SLS 3D printed parts is the most time-consuming and physically demanding part of the SLS workflow and can take from 1 to 6 hours for a single build, while delivering results that vary in consistency. Lisa X users can purchase a Fuse Blast to streamline their post-processing workflow.

Maintenance

Efficient

The Fuse 1+ 30W is designed for minimal upkeep. The system offers proactive maintenance alerts and a full-color touchscreen interface guides you through every step of printing and maintenance. The hopper-based powder delivery system enables completely contained powder loading. The self-regulating dosing system paired with adaptive dosing algorithms minimizes wasted powder in the print process.

Labor-Intensive
The workflow requires the operator to carry out a long list of manual maintenance steps between each print. The dual piston printer architecture requires manual loading of powder for every print job, requiring the user to manually tamp down the powder before each print job. The printer must be overfilled to avoid running out of powder mid-way through printing, drastically increasing the amount of powder waste. General maintenance is also more involved, for example, the recoater cord needs to be replaced every 80 hours.

Software

Free and Easy to Use
Formlabs' free print preparation software, PreForm®, makes it easy to set up a print in minutes and offers the industry-leading packing algorithm to maximize efficiency. Try it now. You can also use the online Dashboard to manage printers, materials, and teams. Available for Windows and Mac.

Paid Tier Recommended

Sinterit’s basic print preparation software is included with the printer for Nylon 12 and Flexa Grey, but using additional materials requires Sinterit Studio Advanced software for $3,290 / €2,990. Available only for Windows.
