Formlabs Deepens its Dental Bench at IDS 2019, Adding Leadership and Materials

Formlabs advances its global market stronghold, announcing senior dental leadership and expansion of denture offering

SOMERVILLE, Mass. and Cologne, DE, Mar. 12, 2019Formlabs, the designer and manufacturer of powerful and accessible 3D printing systems, has today announced the addition of Steffen Boehm, General Manager of Dental. Steffen joins Formlabs from Nobel Biocare where he served at the company for more than 8 years, most recently in the position of Vice President Digital Dentistry.

At the show, the company has also announced it is broadening its spectrum of Digital Denture shade options. Now offering two color base options and a range of four tooth shades.

Since the last IDS show in 2017, Formlabs has added four new dental materials to its dental offering; Dental Model, Dental LT Clear, Digital Dentures, and Castable Wax.

  • Dental Model, is a high accuracy material for model making, diagnostics, and clear aligner production.
  • Dental LT Clear, is a long-term clear biocompatible material for splints and occlusal guards.
  • Digital Dentures, the first truly accessible direct printed dental prosthetics.
  • Castable Wax for dental applications of casting, pressing crowns, bridges and RPDs.

To date, Formlabs has a robust offering of six dental materials that are available to be used interchangeably on the Form 2 SLA 3D printer. Since launching in the dental industry in 2016, Form 2 users have completed more than 175,000 surgeries with Dental SG, made more than 35,000 splints, and 3D printed more than 1.75 million dental parts.

In addition to the new materials, Formlabs is releasing improvements to its Dental Model material, which is used to create models and clear aligners. Now it can be printed at 140 micron settings, enabling one arch to be printed in under 45 minutes and 7 arches in under 3 hours.
