Lee Wellington has dedicated her career to industrial development for over a decade. Before joining the UMA as our Founding Executive Director, Lee directed a New York City Council Member’s land use decisions and legislative portfolio as Chief of Staff; helped create NYC’s Industrial Business Zones and a broader industrial policy for the NYC Mayor’s Office; and administered a New York State tax incentive program, expanding incentive boundaries to include new industrial neighborhoods. Lee was a Planning Fellow at the Pratt Center for Community Development where she coordinated a vacant lot activation program and assisted with a large-scale study of the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Lee received a B.S. in Economics from the Stern School of Business at New York University, a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School, and a M.S. in City and Regional Planning from the Pratt Institute.

Ladyada is the hacker @ Adafruit, founded in 2005 by MIT hacker & engineer Limor “Ladyada” Fried. Her goal was to create the best place online for learning electronics and making the best designed products for makers of all ages and skill levels. Adafruit has grown to over 100+ employees in the heart of NYC with a 50,000+ sq ft. factory. Adafruit has expanded offerings to include tools, equipment and electronics that Limor personally selects, tests and approves before going in to the Adafruit store. Limor was the first female engineer on the cover of WIRED magazine, and was awarded Entrepreneur magazine’s Entrepreneur of the Year. Ladyada was a founding member of the NYC Industrial Business Advisory Council. Adafruit is ranked #11 in the top 20 USA manufacturing companies and #1 in New York City by Inc. 5000 “fastest growing private companies”. Adafruit is featured in Google’s Economic Impact Report. Limor was named a White House Champion of Change in 2016. In June Limor was on the cover of MAKE Magazine. Adafruit is a 100% woman-owned company.

Lizz grew up in the Pacific Northwest where she spent her days learning, crafting, designing and making. Her long time love of textiles and sewing led her to New York where she pursued an education in Textile Development and Marketing and Accessories Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Two years after graduating, Lizz landed her dream job as a hardware developer at Coach Inc. and spent several years developing hardware, traveling overseas to work with hardware suppliers and ultimately trained herself in Rhino 3D. Since working in 3D software, she has been able to fully realize her love of conceptualizing, engineering and 3D printing hardware for fashion accessories. Lizz also has a line of jewelry which is sold through her Toolry site on Shapeways. Toolry is about taking something universally recognized and rethinking its function and iconography through statement pieces which are meant to engage you and poke fun at their real-life counterparts.

Dr. Alan Jurim focuses his time in private dental practice, his dental lab, and teaching. His office, integratedDENTAL, has been featured as the model for innovative digital treatments by Henry Schein's Sidekick Magazine. Dr. Jurim personally oversees all CAD/CAM production at Jurim Dental Studio, his cutting-edge dental laboratory. His strong clinical, engineering, and laboratory credentials afford him a unique skillset to provide helpful one-on-one counseling for other dentists on how to integrate state-of-the-art CAD/CAM techniques into their practice. Dr. Jurim is also highly committed to teaching the practice of digital dentistry to his colleagues. He is the Director of Digital Dentistry at Touro College of Dental Medicine and has founded the Jurim Dental Academy and to further this goal.
Dr. Alan Jurim received his dual degree in Computer Systems Engineering and Electrical Engineering from the prestigious Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute prior to graduating from New York University’s College of Dentistry and North Shore University Hospital’s general practice residency. Dr. Alan Jurim is a member of the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and the American Society for Dental Aesthetics. Dr. Alan is a highly sought-out speaker lecturing internationally on digital photography, digital dentistry, CAD/CAM technologies, cosmetic case planning, and complex reconstructive dental treatments. He is a pioneer in digital dentistry, and as such serves as a key opinion leader at Henry Schein and on the advisory board for 3Shape.

In the evenings, he works as an adjunct professor of Interaction Design at the School of Visual Arts.

Rob Fusi has a strong, diverse background in all aspects of product development and strategic thinking, from blue sky concept through execution of both low and high volume launches. He spent time in the aerospace industry at Boeing and later formed meaningful customer relationships as an application engineer while representing SolidWorks, Mastercam, and rapid prototyping technologies. Rob has an entrepreneurial spirit and founded his first company at age 8, and carries that mindset to this day. He has a deep passion for high technology, and often integrates it into his projects. A 10 year Johnson & Johnson veteran, he has leveraged his creativity and consumer-centric focus through a variety of roles while launching products on brands such as Listerine, Reach, Visine, Johnsons Baby, and Neutrogena. In his current Global Packaging Innovation role, Rob works across all J&J consumer brands and leads efforts to create progressive, innovative packaging with meaningful utility and an improved consumer experience. Rob strives for true innovation by connecting the dots between emerging cross-industry technologies, identifying consumer insights and unmet needs, and aligning to the business strategy.
