Formlabs 3Shape integration software issues and troubleshooting

Formlabs offers a partner integration component (PIC) for 3Shape Unite, allowing you to seamlessly send parts created with a 3Shape Unite source application to PreForm and your Formlabs printer. If you are encountering errors:

  1. Confirm that the latest version of the Formlabs PIC is installed on the same computer running 3Shape Unite. You can download the PIC here or through 3Shape.
  2. Update PreForm to the latest version.
  3. Check the source of the error message. The PIC itself only issues error messages in the Windows notification area in the taskbar. Other errors are from 3Shape Unite. If you encounter an error issued by the PIC, contact Formlabs Support. Otherwise, continue.
  4. Confirm that your copy of 3Shape Unite and its source applications are up to date. The Formlabs PIC requires:
    • 3Shape Unite version 1.8.10.1 or higher (not 3Shape Dental System)
    • Splint Studio version 10.0.0.6 or higher
    • Implant Studio 13.0.0.11 or higher
    • TRIOS Design Studio version 13.1.1.9 or higher
    • Model Builder Express version 6.0.1.3 or higher
  5. Confirm that you are using a compatible printer:
    • Form 4B
    • Form 3B or Form 3B+
    • Form 2
  6. Confirm that the printer is online and connected to the same network as the computer running 3Shape Unite and the PIC. For more information about Formlabs SLA printer connectivity, see our article on Connecting a Formlabs SLA printer via USB, Ethernet, or Wi-Fi.
  7. Confirm that you have at least one active valid print profile for your current combination or material and printer. The Formlabs PIC comes bundled with predefined print profiles for the Form 4B and materials associated with specific applications. If you are using an older Formlabs SLA printer, you will need to create and activate a custom print profile. Without a print profile, the integration cannot execute the job.

Creating a custom print profile

To create a custom print profile with the Formlabs 3Shape Unite partner integration component:

  1. Locate the PIC icon (a blue square with the Formlabs butterfly logo) in the notification area of the Windows taskbar. You may need to click the ^ button to see a full array of background applications.
  2. Right-click the PIC icon. A context menu appears.
  3. Click Open control panel. The PreForm Integration for 3Shape Produce window appears.
Creating a custom print profile for 3Shape
  1. Click Create new profile. The Configuration Editor window appears.
  2. Select your desired settings for the print profile. Click Save profile when you are done.
