Nylon 11 CF powder can act as an irritant of skin and mucosal membranes. Formlabs recommends using personal protective equipment (PPE) per the guidelines of the SDS.
PPE recommendations
Notice:
Formlabs recommends always wearing PPE when interacting with Fuse Series printers or handling parts printed on Fuse Series printers. For more information about safely printing, refer to the support article Safety with Fuse Series printers.
The following PPE is recommended when working with Nylon 11 CF Powder:
Skin contact
If Nylon 11 CF Powder comes into contact with skin, wash it off immediately with cold water and soap. You may press adhesive tape to the skin to mechanically pull away any remaining Nylon 11 CF Powder after washing.
Cleanup
Formlabs recommends using grounded and bonded antistatic vacuums such as those that are NFPA 652-compliant to clean up Nylon 11 CF Powder. It is also possible to use acetone to clean machine parts and surfaces.
Warning:
Avoid using compressed air to prevent scattering carbon fiber particles.
Powder that touches any surface cannot be reused. If mobilized powder settles onto surfaces other than the Fuse Sift workspace, it should be considered waste. This includes anything captured by the vacuum, even if the bag is brand new and it exclusively contains powder from the workspace. Attempts to recapture and store stray powder back inside the Fuse Sift or powder hoppers may contaminate the powder stream.
Disposal
Nylon 11 CF Powder may be disposed of along with general waste, as it is not considered hazardous. Dispose of the material and any contaminated disposable PPE or cleaning items in a closed container in accordance with national, state and local regulations.
Contaminated packaging can also be disposed of in accordance with national, state and local regulations. Container crushing, puncturing or other means are recommended to prevent unauthorized use of used containers.
Notice:
For disposal purposes, vacuum bags and filters used to clean unsintered powder should be considered unsintered powder waste.
