Disposing of resin tanks
Dispose of a resin tank when it has become damaged, has reached the end of its lifetime, or has otherwise been made unsuitable for use.
Caution:
Refer to the safety data sheet (SDS) and local authorities for guidance on disposing of resin and solvent. Liquid resin (whether pure liquid, dissolved in solvent, or partially cured) may be classified as hazardous waste in your region and shall be disposed of with care.
To dispose of a resin tank:
- Put on a new, clean pair of nitrile gloves.
- Remove the build platform from the printer.
- Hold the side walls of the resin tank.
- Gently slide the resin tank away from and out of the printer.
- Transfer or dispose of
the remaining resin.
- Pour the resin from the old resin tank to a new resin tank or another container.
- If there is debris or cured parts in the resin, filter the resin before transferring it to a new resin tank. Refer to the support article Resin filtration for more information.
Notice:
Pouring resin back into the original resin cartridge may risk contaminating the resin cartridge with cured resin pieces or debris, which can cause print failures.
- Use a paper towel to wipe any remaining resin off the old resin tank.
- Place the old resin tank in sunlight (a window sill is fine) or UV light to cure excess resin, and dispose of properly once cured.
- Dispose of the empty resin tank according to local regulations.
Resin tank ID chips and RFID stickers (EU)
Resin tanks have an ID chip (Form 2/Form 3) or an RFID sticker (Form 3L/Form 4) that the printer reads to detect the unique tank ID and current resin type. In the EU, ID chips and RFID stickers on resin tanks are not covered by the directive on waste electrical and electronic equipment (see Directive 2012/19/EU, art. 2, para. 3(b)) and therefore do not need to be disposed of separately from the rest of the tank.
