How does mineral oil improve the appearance of printed parts? Does Formlabs have a recommended brand or supplier of mineral oil?
Applying mineral oil after sanding and washing an SLA printed part can improve the surface finish and remove dust, scuffs, and other blemishes.
How it works:
- Saturation of surface pores: Mineral oil seeps into the tiny pores on the surface of a part
- Light diffusion:The oil reduces the scattering of light on rough surfaces, creating a smoother appearance.
- Temporary coating:Acts like a light polish—improving aesthetics without chemically altering the part.
