Formlabs recommends keeping a dedicated resin tank for each material type instead of re-using tanks for multiple resins. There are some cases in which it may be appropriate to reprogram the resin tank:

• Misprogrammed resin tank: A user accidentally programs a resin tank with the wrong resin cartridge and needs to reprogram the resin tank's material type.
• Using similar resin formulations with different version numbers: While most resins are not compatible with earlier versions, some versions have minimal changes to the components. Reprogramming the resin tank material type allows customers to change their resin tanks from the old version to the reformulated version or vice versa.

To reprogram a resin tank:

1. Clean the tank using only the scraper. Do not use cleaners, wipes, or solvent. For more details, refer to the support article Inspecting and cleaning standard resin tanks and Resin Tanks LT (Form 2).
2. Pour any unwanted resin into a separate, clear plastic container or bag to cure before disposal. Refer to the support article Resin care for proper resin storage and disposal methods.
3. Insert the cleaned resin tank into the printer.
4. Insert the new resin cartridge.
5. Upload a model from PreForm that has been saved using the material settings of the newly inserted resin cartridge. If the old material’s settings are selected, the reprogramming process does not work.
6. Start the print. When the touchscreen displays an error message saying that the resin tank and cartridge are incompatible, tap Ignore on the touchscreen.
7. The printer reprograms the resin tank to match the dispensed resin from the newly inserted cartridge. If you do not see the Ignore message, check that the print settings of the cartridge match the file you are trying to print.
