Printing orthodontic models using Fast Arch Printing (Form 3/Form 3B)

Fast Arch Printing is a print setting that allows you to print orthodontic models up to two times faster than standard print settings.

Selecting Fast Arch Printing

Select Fast Arch print settings when preparing your orthodontic model for printing in PreForm.

Note:

Fast Arch Printing is validated for solid orthodontic models oriented flat on the build platform without supports. The feature is not designed for other dental applications (including full palates), orientations, or support settings.

To select Fast Arch Printing in the Dental Workspace:

  1. If you are printing with Fast Arch Printing for the first time or are switching between build platforms, recalibrate your printer’s Z-axis by following the instructions in the support article Fine Tuning Formlabs LFS printers.
  2. Open PreForm and select Dental Workspace. The Dental Workspace homepage appears.
  3. Under the heading What Would You Like to Print? select Orthodontic Models to create a new preset for orthodontic models. The New Preset page appears.
  4. Under Choose a Template, select Form 3/3+ or Form 3B/Form 3B+ as the printer type. Ensure that Orthodontic Models is selected as a template. The page updates Material Settings and Model Settings to reflect the template’s recommendations.
  5. Click Material Settings. The Material Settings panel appears.
  6. Select your material and layer thickness.
  7. Under Choose Print Settings, select Fast Arch. A blue box appears around your selection.
  8. Enter or update the Preset Name under Job Setup.
  9. Click Save & Apply to create your preset. The Dental Workspace home screen reappears with your preset listed under What Would You Like to Print?.
  10. Select the preset in the Dental Workspace homepage to apply Fast Arch Printing to your next orthodontic model.

Notice:

Failure to recalibrate the Z-axis when printing with Fast Arch Printing for the first time or when switching between build platforms may cause delamination in prints or other print failures.

If you experience a print failure when using Fast Arch Printing after recalibrating the Z-axis, contact Formlabs Support or your authorized reseller.
