Receiving and setting up the Form Cure L V2

Plan an appropriate location for the Form Cure L V2. Purchase additional finishing supplies to ensure you can start using the Form Cure L when it arrives.

The Form Cure L V2 is ready for use once the turntable is installed and the Form Cure L is connected to power.

Additional supplies

Prior to receiving the Form Cure L, purchase the following additional supplies to help finish post-cured parts:

  • Powder-free, chemical-resistant, disposable gloves (nitrile or neoprene)
  • Sandpaper
  • Mineral oil
  • Primer and paints
  • Apron
  • General purpose cleaner (e.g., glass cleaner)
  • Low-fiber paper towels
  • Safety glasses
  • Shoe covers

Arranging the workspace

The Form Cure L V2 has the following dimensions: 50.7 × 54.3 × 54.5 cm (20.0 × 21.4 × 21.5 in). The Form Cure L V2 unit weighs 40 kg (88.2 lb).

Reserve the following minimum dimensions for the most convenient access:

  • Width: 60 cm (23.6 in)
  • Depth: 110 cm (43.3 in)
  • Height: 56 cm (22.0 in)

Operate the Form Cure L in a well-ventilated room with a temperature of 18–28 °C (64–82 °F). Follow safety considerations for the Form Cure L.

Unboxing the Form Cure L V2

The Form Cure L ships in a cardboard carton protected by foam inserts above and below the unit. During unboxing, inspect the Form Cure L for any damage or missing items. In the case of damage or missing items, contact Formlabs Support or your authorized reseller.

Note:

Keep the packaging for transportation or shipping.

To unbox the Form Cure L:

  1. Position the packaging near the designated location, leaving enough room for two people to comfortably maneuver throughout the area.
  2. Cut the shipping straps around the box.
  3. Remove the eight edge protectors from the exterior of the box.
  4. Lift the outer cardboard box off of the lower tray.
  5. Remove the glass turntable and power cable from the foam on top of the machine and set them aside.
  6. Lift the upper packing foam off of the machine.
  7. Use the provided handles on the carrying slings to lift the machine out of its carrier tray.
  8. Carefully move the machine onto its workspace.
  9. Remove the carrying slings from under the machine.

Caution:

If you need to readjust the Form Cure L, use the carrying slings to pick the machine back up. Do not pick up the Form Cure L without the carrying slings.

  1. Open the door.
  2. Remove the turntable from its packaging. Place the turntable on its mount.
  3. Close the door.

Notice:

Remove all packaging material before connecting power. Retain all packaging and inserts for warranty service. Refer to the manual for the repackaging instructions.

Form Cure L V2 components

  1. Door: Double walled chamber door insulates the chamber and allows it to heat quickly. Orange window treatment blocks curing light.
  2. Heaters: Two 700 W heaters can heat the chamber up to 100 °C (212 °F).
  3. LEDs: Three arrays with a total of 96 405 nm LEDs help to post-cure parts. Secondary lights illuminate the turntable when the door is open and during heating.
  4. Turntable: Rotating glass plate ensures balanced post-curing across all exposed surfaces.
  5. Display: Shows status, time, temperature, and options for configuring the Form Cure L, including pre-programming post-curing profiles with recommended settings for each Formlabs material.
  6. USB-C port: For connecting the Form Cure L to a computer for firmware updates.
  7. Power cable (not pictured): Provides power to the Form Cure L.

Installing the Form Cure L

Place the Form Cure L on a clean, level surface with a nearby power source. Plug the included power cable into the power port on the back of the unit and connect the power cable to a circuit. Flip the breaker switch on the back of the unit to the ON position to power on the machine.

As the Form Cure L initializes, the Formlabs logo with a progress bar appears on the touchscreen, followed by the onboarding screen. Follow the on-screen prompts to finish setting up the machine.
