Preparing your workspace for the Form 3L/Form 3BL

Before receiving your printer, prepare a space to install and operate the Form 3L/Form 3BL and house the necessary accessories and consumables. Choose a location separate from any machinery or tooling that generates dust or sparks, such as wood or metal working equipment.

Note:

If your product has any visible shipping damage upon delivery, add a note to the shipping receipt or bill of lading. Contact Formlabs Support or your authorized reseller and provide photos of the damage, both to the unopened package and its contents.

Workspace requirements

Reserve the following minimum dimensions for the most convenient access (W × D × H):

  • Form 3L/Form 3BL: 90 × 96 × 104 cm (35.4 × 37.8 × 41 in)
  • Form 3L Finish Kit: 55 × 85 × 90 cm (21.7 × 33.5 × 35.4 in)
  • Additional space for other post-processing tools (e.g., Form Wash L, Form Cure L, or Formlabs-approved third-party devices)

The Form 3L/Form 3BL requires a power source that meets the following requirements:

  • 100–240 VAC
  • Maximum 8.5 A
  • 50/60 Hz
  • 650 W

Storing consumables

Formlabs materials require proper storage to maximize the usable lifetime. Light and temperature affect shelf life significantly. For optimal results, follow Formlabs guidelines for storing and handling resins.

Notice:

Storing resin in resin tanks for longer than the recommended times may cause leaks and damage equipment.

Consider dedicating shelf space as storage for consumables. Resin cartridges can be stored next to each other vertically on a flat surface. Form 3L/Form 3BL tank cases and Form 3L/Form 3BL build platforms lay flat and are stackable for efficient storage.

Additional supplies

Aside from the contents of the printer package, you need additional supplies to post-process your printed parts and to clean and maintain the printer. Prepare your workspace by purchasing them in advance:

  • Isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher) and/or tripropylene glycol monomethyl ether
  • Low-fiber paper towels
  • Non-abrasive microfiber cloth
  • Non-reactive nitrile gloves
  • PEC*PADs
  • Safety glasses
