Get started with your Formlabs 3D printer by downloading PreForm software. Importing an STL/OBJ/3MF file into PreForm is the first step to supporting and orienting a digital 3D model in preparation of printing. 

PreForm is supported on the following operating systems:

• Windows 10 64-bit (version 1809) or later
• macOS 10.12 or higher

If your computer is using an unsupported operating system, install PreForm 2.16 for 32-bit operating systems.

To install PreForm on your computer to use with a Fuse 1 printer:

1. Visit formlabs.com/software.
2. Click the Download button for your computer's operating system. An EXE or DMG file downloads.
3. Open your Downloads folder.
4. Double-click the file named Preform_setup to begin installing PreForm. A setup window opens.
5. Follow the prompts to finish installing.
6. Update your Fuse 1 firmware.
7. Import a model into PreForm to begin printing with your Fuse 1.

To install PreForm on your computer to use with a Formlabs SLA printer:

1. Visit formlabs.com/software.
2. Click the Download button for your computer's operating system. An EXE or DMG file downloads.
3. Open your Downloads folder.
4. Double-click the file named Preform_setup to begin installing PreForm. A setup window opens.
5. Follow the prompts to finish installing.
6. Update your Form 3L/Form 3BL firmware.
7. Import a model into PreForm to begin printing with your Form 3L/Form 3BL.

To install PreForm on your computer to use with a Form 1+ printer:

1. Download PreForm 2.20:
   • Preform_setup_2_20.exe for Windows users.
   • PreForm_2_20.dmg for Mac users.
2. Open your Downloads folder.
3. Double-click the downloaded file to begin installing PreForm. A setup window opens.
4. Follow the prompts to finish installing.
5. Update your Form 1+ firmware to version 1.40.
6. Import a model into PreForm to begin printing with your Form 1+.

PreForm automatically checks for updates if the computer is connected to the internet. When updates are available, PreForm prompts you with the option to download and install the latest version.

To manually check for updates in PreForm:

1. In the PreForm menu bar, click Help > Check For Updates…. The PreForm Update Check box appears while PreForm checks for updates.
2. If updates are available, follow the prompts to download and install the new version of PreForm.

PreForm versions 2.17.0 and later only support 64-bit operating systems. Users on 32-bit operating systems can continue using PreForm version 2.16.0, the final 32-bit release. While PreForm feature updates and bug fixes are available for 64-bit releases only, Formlabs maintains materials updates for the 32-bit PreForm 2.16.0 release.
