Replacing the Form Wash (1st Generation) outer lid hinge

Replacing the Form Wash (1st Generation) outer lid hinge

The outer lid hinge secures the Form Wash outer lid to the frame of the Form Wash. If the outer lid hinge is broken, the outer lid may not close fully or may wobble when you open or close the lid.

Use this guide to replace the Form Wash outer lid hinge.

Required Supplies:

Formlabs:

  • Replacement outer lid hinge plate

Third-party:

  • 2.0 mm hex driver
  • Nitrile gloves

Estimated time: 10 minutes

Preparing the workspace

Overview: Prepare the Form Wash and a level workspace for replacing the outer lid hinge.

CAUTION:

Wear gloves when handling parts and surfaces that come into contact with solvents or liquid resin.

Step 1: Disconnect from power

Disconnect the Form Wash from its power source.

Step 2: Move the unit

Lift the Form Wash by gripping its base, not the handles of the wash bucket. Move the unit to a well-ventilated area. Set the unit and the outer lid hinge on a level surface for easy access.

Step 3: Remove the wash bucket

Remove the wash bucket from the base and set the bucket aside on a stable, flat surface. To reduce the likelihood of spillage, remove the solvent from the wash bucket with a siphon pump.

Removing the outer lid hinge

Overview: Locate the outer lid hinge. Unscrew the four screws connecting the hinge to the Z-tower.

Step 1: Locate the damaged outer lid hinge

Rotate the unit so that the back faces you. Four screws secure the hinge to the Z-tower.

Installing the replacement outer lid hinge

Overview: Align the replacement outer lid hinge with the outer lid. Insert the replacement hinge into the outer lid. Attach the outer lid and hinge to the Form Wash.

Step 1: Align the outer lid and outer lid hinge

Place the outer lid on a flat surface. Place the new outer lid hinge plate above it with the connection tabs parallel to the corresponding slots on the lid.

Ensure the smooth sides of the outer lid and outer lid hinge plate are facedown.

Step 2: Insert one side of the replacement hinge

Slide one hinge connection tab into the corresponding hinge on the outer lid.

Step 3: Insert the other side of the replacement hinge

Push in the remaining connection tab to attach the hinge plate to the outer lid. Ensure the hinge mechanism operates smoothly.
