Unusual noises (Form Wash L)

Unusual noises (Form Wash L)

The Form Wash L has several key moving parts: the wash basket raises and lowers through the hinged inner lid assembly and two impellers agitate the solvent in the wash bucket. Damage to these components or improper contact between them can cause your Form Wash L to make unusual noises during use.

Symptoms

  • Impellers clicking or buzzing during a wash cycle
  • Clanking sound from the inner lid while the wash basket raises or lowers
  • Scraping sound from the inner lid while the wash basket raises or lowers

Causes

  • Impeller noises
    • Something knocks the impeller loose from the motor
    • Too much friction for the impellers to turn normally
    • Impeller motors flexing away from the impellers due to the weight of the solvent (Form Wash L V2 only)
  • Inner lid noises
    • Wash basket or lift plate contacting inner lid
    • Damaged inner lid

Troubleshooting steps

Impeller clicking or buzzing

The Form Wash L impellers are held onto the impeller motors with magnets. If something knocks the impellers loose, the motors move away from the impellers, or if there is too much friction for them to turn normally, the impellers may briefly decouple from the motors, then recouple.

Follow the instructions in the article Form Wash L impeller decoupling and clicking to resolve this issue.

Clanking sound while the wash basket raises or lowers

A clanking sound while the elevator raises or lowers is often a sign of something, such as the wash basket, catching on the Form Wash L inner lid.

  1. Watch the machine closely to determine what component is contacting the inner lid and where.
  2. If possible, flex or bend the inner lid, lift plate, or basket to prevent the contact.
  3. If the inner lid is damaged or cannot be flexed out of the way, it may need to be replaced. Form Wash L inner lid assemblies are available for purchase on the Formlabs Store.

Scraping sound while the wash basket raises or lowers

In some cases, the wash basket can scrape along the inner lid as it raises or lowers, producing a consistent noise.

  1. Watch the machine closely to determine where the wash basket is scraping against the inner lid.
  2. If possible, flex or bend the inner lid or basket to prevent the contact.
  3. If the wash basket is damaged or cannot be moved away from the inner lid, it may need to be replaced. Form Wash L wash baskets are available for purchase on the Formlabs Store.
