    Form 4 Resin Tank

Low Force Display™ (LFD) 3D printing uses a flexible yet strong dual-layer film tank for consistent, high-quality prints. Every resin tank includes a reusable lid, making it easy to stack tanks and store resin outside of the machine. With a separate tank for each individual resin color or type, switching materials is as easy as sliding in a new tank.

Resin Tanks are built to last and deliver consistent performance for at least 75,000 layers of printing — approximately 190 prints using average height model (39 mm tall), any resin, and 100 µm layer height.

    Form 4 Mixer

The Form 4 Resin Mixer improves material performance by keeping resin homogenous in the tank during the printing process. A Resin Mixer is required anytime you are printing. Resin Mixers typically last for the lifetime of your Resin Tank or more.

For convenience, we recommend having one Resin Mixer for each Form 4 Resin Tank.

    Form 3 Resin Tank V2.1

Low Force Stereolithography (LFS)™ 3D printing uses linear illumination and a flexible film tank to turn liquid resin into flawless parts. A key component of the LFS process, the strong dual-layer film at the bottom of the Form 3 Resin Tank, allows for a dynamic and precise print process.

Notice: Form 3 Resin Tank V2.1 is compatible with all Formlabs resins, but is required for use with some specific materials. There are two previous versions of the Form 3 Resin Tank, Tank V1 and Tank V2, each with their own compatibility requirements. Read more about all tank versions, compatibility, lifetime, and maintenance in our support article.

Why Choose BioMed Flex 50A Resin?

Fuel medical innovation using 3D printing and BioMed Flex 50A Resin, from comfortable, patient-specific medical devices to soft tissue medical models surgeons can reference in the operating room (O.R.)

Comfortable

Produce mass-personalized, medical-grade parts that are comfortable and feel great.

Soft

Produce soft tissue models that feel similar to human tissue and deliver biomechanical behaviors that are ideal for creating full-size hearts, gastrointestinal models, or small complex neurovascular models to bring into the O.R.

Transparent

Parts produced using this material appear transparent and clear to view how tools or objects flow within parts.

Medical-Grade Material, Biocompatible Parts

Leverage a material manufactured within our Quality Management Systems, with strict adherence to ISO 13485. Instill confidence that this material is suitable for biocompatible applications with long-term skin (>30 days), short-term mucosal membrane contact (<24 hours), and USP Class VI certifications.

Applications*

Directly 3D print soft, elastic parts requiring biocompatibility with BioMed Flex 50A Resin. Reduce workflow times by eliminating molding to directly produce comfortable, patient-specific medical devices or soft tissue medical models surgeons can reference in the O.R.

*Unlike Formlabs Dental Resins, no intended uses are provided for BioMed Resins. Material properties may vary based on part design, manufacturing practices, and other methods. It is the manufacturer’s responsibility and its respective customers and end-users to determine the biocompatibility and performance of all printed parts for their respective application and use. To instill confidence in potential users, Formlabs has tested biocompatibility for common use cases and manufactures BioMed Resins in an ISO 13485-certified facility. We can offer representative examples of what customers have done with our products and the supporting documentation we make freely available.

FAQ

BioMed Flex 50A Resin is a soft, elastic, and transparent SLA photopolymer resin designed for biocompatible medical applications. It is well suited for comfortable, patient-specific medical devices and soft tissue anatomical models that surgeons can reference in the operating room.

The material is USP Class VI certified and is manufactured in a Formlabs facility that is FDA-registered and ISO 13485 and EU MDR certified. All BioMed Resins are appropriately registered with the FDA and CE marked according to the EU MDR. You can view the ISO certificate of registration directly on the Formlabs website.

Yes. The material is suitable for long-term skin contact (more than 30 days) and short-term mucosal membrane contact (less than 24 hours). As with any biocompatible material, it is ultimately the responsibility of the manufacturer, its customers, and end users to determine biocompatibility and performance for their specific application.

The material has a Shore Hardness of 50A, an ultimate tensile strength of 2.3 MPa, an elongation at break of 150%, a tear strength of 11 kN/m, and a compression set of 11% (tested at 70 °C for 22 hours). These properties make it comparable to soft human tissue in feel and biomechanical behavior. The Technical Data Sheet provides the complete set of material data.

The resin is designed for two primary use cases: comfortable, patient-specific medical devices requiring long-term skin contact, and soft tissue anatomical models representing organs, muscle, skin, and small vasculature. The material's transparency also makes it useful for visualizing how tools or objects flow through a part.

Printing directly with BioMed Flex 50A Resin eliminates the molding step, reducing workflow times and enabling mass personalization of patient-specific parts. This allows medical teams to produce soft, elastic, biocompatible parts on demand rather than relying on time-consuming molding processes.

BioMed Flex 50A Resin is compatible with the Form 4B, Form 4BL, Form 3B, Form 3BL, and Form 2. Compatible resin tanks include the Form 4 Resin Tank, Form 4L Resin Tank, Form 3 Resin Tank V2.1, and Form 3L Resin Tank V3.

Yes. Post-processing involves two steps: washing parts to remove excess resin using an alcohol wash, followed by post-curing. Post-curing is required for biocompatible materials to achieve the safety standards set by regulatory agencies. Detailed settings for both steps are provided in the Manufacturing Guide.

The Technical Data Sheet and Safety Data Sheet are available for download on the Formlabs materials page. You can also request a Certificate of Analysis (COA) directly from Formlabs.

Pricing depends on the printer series and resin volume selected. Formlabs offers tiered bulk order discounts for larger volume purchases. Visit the BioMed Flex 50A Resin product page or contact Formlabs Sales for current pricing details.
