Why Choose Alpha Clear Resin

Stunning, Precise Parts

Optical clarity, crisp fine features, and smooth, dimensionally accurate surfaces for see-through parts that fit together.

Blazing Fast

Print speeds average 40 mm/h regardless of part count or size, without compromising reliability.

Engineering-Grade Performance

Exceeds the strength and toughness of ABS-like resins with a 38 MPa ultimate tensile strength and a 32% elongation at break.

Print with Confidence

The Alpha Resin Family uses low-odor components and post-processed parts meet safety requirements for long-term skin contact. Alpha Resins are the first resin printing materials certified for UL GREENGUARD Gold, when printed on Form Studio 1 and using VOC Extractor.

Applications

Robust parts that showcase internal features.

Molds, masters, and other rapid tooling.

Lighting and optical prototypes.

Transparent housings and enclosures.

Resin Printing with Confidence

Low VOC Emissions

The Alpha Resins are the first resin printing materials to achieve UL GREENGUARD Gold*, an independent standard certifying low VOC emissions for homes, offices, schools, and other indoor environments. This certification is for the printing process - not just for a final part.

Skin-Safe Parts

Post-processed parts meet requirements for long-term (>30 day) skin contact, in accordance with ISO 10993, meaning they can be used in wearables and high-contact applications.

Minimize Risks

Liquid resin scored as non-skin irritant according to OECD 439, a standard commonly used in cosmetics industry, to minimize the risks from incidental skin contact with resin.

Low-Odor Components

Formulated using low-odor chemicals, ensuring a pleasant printing experience.

FAQ

Alpha Clear Resin is a transparent SLA 3D printing resin in the Formlabs Alpha Resin Family. It combines optical clarity with crisp fine features and smooth, dimensionally accurate surfaces. That makes it a strong choice for see-through parts, enclosures, and prototypes printed on a desktop 3D printer.

Common applications include transparent housings and enclosures, lighting and optical prototypes, molds and masters for rapid tooling, and robust parts that show internal features. Hobbyists use clear resin for display cases, light diffusers, and models where visibility matters.

Yes. Alpha Clear Resin uses low-odor components and is part of the first resin family certified UL GREENGUARD Gold for low VOC emissions (when printed on Form Studio 1 with VOC Extractor). That makes it well suited to home workshops and shared living spaces.

Alpha Clear Resin averages 40 mm/h at a 100 μm layer height, regardless of part count or size, without compromising reliability.

Alpha Clear has an optical transmission of 83% for a 2 mm thick part and 78% for a 10 mm thick part which puts it into a similar range as common clear plastics like polycarbonate and PET.

Alpha Clear Resin offers the same balance of speed and aesthetics as Alpha Black, White, and Grey, printing at 100 μm and averaging 40 mm/h. It's the only transparent option in the family. For maximum detail on scale models, choose Alpha Model Resin. For maximum speed, choose Alpha Fast Resin.

Yes. Alpha Clear Resin is formulated with low-odor chemicals. Alpha Resins are the first resin printing materials to achieve UL GREENGUARD Gold for low VOC emissions when printed on Form Studio 1 using VOC Extractor, and the certification covers the printing process itself.

Post-processed parts meet ISO 10993 requirements for long-term (more than 30 days) skin contact. The liquid resin also scored as a non-skin irritant under OECD 439.

Wash parts in clean ≥90% IPA or Formlabs Resin Washing Solution, then let them air dry for at least 30 minutes before handling. Post-curing is optional but recommended for full strength and functionality. Settings are available for Form Studio Wash+Cure, Form Wash, Form Wash L, and Form Cure units.

Alpha Clear Resin is designed for Form Studio 1.

Post-Processing

Washing

The foundational step in any SLA post-processing workflow is to remove any excess resin on the surface of the parts through a solvent wash.

Use clean ≥ 90% IPA, or use Formlabs Resin Washing Solution.

For the best surface finish, Formlabs recommends allowing parts printed in Alpha Resins to air dry for at least 30 minutes after washing, before handling.

Curing

Post-curing Alpha Resins is optional, but recommended, for parts to achieve their full strength and functionality. This step completes the chemical reaction initiated during printing, transforming the part from its green state into a fully finished component.
