Introducing Form Studio 1: Professional Resin 3D Printing, Starting at $699
15 years ago, Formlabs was founded on a mission: to build the tools that make it possible for anyone to bring their ideas to life. Form 1 took stereolithography off the factory floor and put it on a desktop. Four generations later, Form 4 is the best-selling professional resin 3D printer in the world — ten times faster than Form 1, far more reliable, and trusted by over 90% of Fortune 500 hardware companies.
But we've only been delivering on part of that mission. Almost everyone printing on a Formlabs machine is a professional.
Resin printing produces parts with detail, material properties, and speed that nothing else on a desktop can match. Until now, though, getting those parts at an accessible price point meant accepting real trade-offs: messy workflows, finicky settings, unreliable results, and materials with genuine health risks.
Form Studio 1 is our answer. We took 15 years of engineering and packed it into the world's most affordable professional resin 3D printer — fast, safe, reliable, open, and, with Alpha Resins and the VOC Extractor, the first and only UL GREENGUARD Gold Certified resin 3D printer. Form Studio 1 is now available, starting at $699. A limited Founder’s Edition in aqua, teal, and violet colorways is available while supplies last.

Blazing Fast: Most Prints in Under Two Hours
Harness industry-leading print speeds for every application. Form Studio 1 averages 40 mm/h across materials, which puts most prints under two hours.1 With Alpha Fast Resin, speeds reach 130 mm/h — you can produce a finished, functional part in less time than an FDM printer needs to calibrate and lay down its first layers.2

This Raspberry Pi enclosure was printed in 8 minutes in Alpha Fast Resin on Form Studio 1.
Printing this fast doesn't just save time. It changes how you design, iterate, and build — you can test three revisions in an afternoon instead of three days.
Every part of Form Studio 1 is engineered for speed and print success. 28 high-powered LEDs deliver 6 mW/cm² at the print plane. We also introduced a new second-generation release texture with more airflow that reduces peel forces so parts separate from the film faster. The new tank film uses a novel polymer that combines improved durability with very low bonding to resin. The improvements allow for high print speed and best-in-class print success rate.
Prints with Formlabs materials start immediately thanks to automatic resin dispensing and fast resin heating. This means no manual pouring of resin or topping off, for a clean, intuitive workflow.
1 Typical print time using 80th percentile print height (53 mm), 100 μm layer height, and most materials.
2 Max print speed using Alpha Fast Resin and 250 μm layer height based on actual print times from a collection of test parts covering common engineering, product design, miniatures, and art applications.
Razor-Sharp Details and Premium Materials
Form Studio 1 delivers sharp edges and smooth surfaces through 35 µm pixels — 30% finer than Form 4 — plus anti-aliasing, a highly collimated backlight, and resins formulated specifically for its light engine with validated print settings.
This robot is powered by two harmonic drives — the high-end transmissions used in industrial robots. They're difficult to manufacture and typically very expensive, because the key mechanical components are usually precision-machined stainless steel. Every mechanical part on this robot, including the critical flex spline, was printed on Form Studio 1 in Alpha Clear Resin.
Nine Formlabs resins are fully supported at launch:
-
Six new Alpha Resins — Grey, White, Black, Clear, Model, and Fast
-
True Cast Resin for precision casting of intricate jewelry and complex engineering components
-
Flexible 80A Resin V2, an elastomer that rivals the look, feel, and function of 80A cast urethanes, TPUs, and hard rubbers
-
Tough 1500 Resin V2, a resilient material with strength, stiffness, and toughness comparable to polypropylene
Every Formlabs material ships with validated print settings in PreForm. Our optimization engineers tune every setting against hundreds of real user models, so you import your file, pick your material, and press print. No trial and error.
Lastly, because Form Studio 1 is open, you can print third-party materials too.
Six New Alpha Resins
Most resins on the market make you compromise. Aesthetics, toughness, cost — pick two. Alpha Resins were formulated from scratch to take advantage of the Form Studio 1 light engine, and they don't ask you to choose.
Every Alpha Resin is low-odor, independently certified for long-term skin safety, and the first 3D printing resins certified to UL GREENGUARD GOLD. Pricing starts at $29/L.

Safe, Worry-Free Indoor Printing
When we started developing Form Studio 1 and Alpha Resins, we set out to build the world's safest resin 3D printing ecosystem. Resin printing today is something of a Wild West, and many printers and materials on the market carry significant health and safety risks.
The First UL GREENGUARD Gold Certified 3D Printer
UL GREENGUARD is a third-party certification that addresses indoor air quality.
Form Studio 1 is the first and only resin 3D printer to be UL GREENGUARD Gold Certified when printing Alpha Resins with the VOC Extractor.
UL GREENGUARD Gold certification means a product has been tested for chemical emissions, with its manufacturing process reviewed, and shown to have minimal impact on indoor air quality. It's UL's stricter certification, designed for sensitive environments where children, older adults, and other vulnerable people spend extended time — like schools, daycares, hospitals, and nurseries. This means you can print comfortably at home or at work, with no special ventilation or makeshift enclosure needed.
How the VOC Extractor Works
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) have a high vapor pressure at room temperature, which makes them airborne. They're responsible for the scent of everything from perfume to 3D printing resin. Some VOCs are odorless, and some are sensitizing agents that can cause allergic reactions after repeated exposure.
An optional accessory, the VOC Extractor is an active filtration device that attaches to Form Studio 1. A fan pulls VOC-laden air from the printer through a hose and pushes it through an activated carbon filter set that absorbs the VOCs. The result is safer, lower-odor printing suitable for confined spaces like homes and classrooms.
In internal testing, we placed TVOC sensors in sealed boxes with different printers and ran two-hour prints. A third-party printer running a general-purpose resin produced high VOC levels. Alpha Resins on Form Studio 1 measured far lower. With the VOC Extractor, VOC levels barely changed compared to the baseline.
The VOC Extractor is also compatible with Form 4 and Form 4B, but it has only been tested and GREENGUARD Gold Certified with Form Studio 1 printing Alpha Resins.
Safe Materials, Not Just a Safe Printer
Formlabs develops and manufactures a wide range of FDA-compliant medical materials, some cleared for long-term use in the mouth. We apply those same testing standards to Alpha Resins. All Alpha Resins are made and tested at our factory in Ohio, USA.
Alpha Resins:
-
Use only low-odor chemicals for a more pleasant printing environment.
-
Use vetted ingredients. No chemicals with known acute toxicity or known long-term effects on organ or reproductive health. In liquid form, their skin irritation potential is comparable to household laundry detergent — tested to the same standard used for cosmetics and personal care products.
-
Are certified skin-safe. Parts printed with Alpha Resins on Form Studio 1 and post-processed following Formlabs’ recommended guidelines are certified for long-term (>30 days) skin contact, in accordance with ISO 10993, the same standard used for Medical Devices. This means printed parts are non-cytotoxic, non-skin irritants, or non-skin sensitizers.
We ran industry-standard cytotoxicity tests on printed parts from both Alpha Resins and competitor materials. A fully washed and cured Sunlu ABS-like part scored 4/4 for cytotoxicity — it killed nearly the entire cell culture. Alpha Grey, tested identically, scored 1/4, leaving cells indistinguishable from the untreated control.

We're publishing results for every resin we test so anyone can review them — and we want your input on what to test next. We'll publish results for the most-requested resins.

Open: Print Any Resin You Want
Form Studio 1 ships open. You get access to Formlabs materials and to third-party resins.
Two resin tanks are available:

Resin Tank
- Alpha Resins
- True Cast Resin
- Flexible 80A Resin V2

Resin Tank Pro
- Tough 1500 Resin V2
- Third-party resins
The Form Studio 1 Resin Tank is strong and flexible, built for fast print speeds and fine feature resolution, with a film that reduces peel forces. However, it's optimized for specific chemistries, like Alpha Resin, other resins can degrade it rapidly, leading to leaks.
The Form Studio 1 Resin Tank Pro is built for compatibility with a wide range of resins. Its chemically resistant dual-layer film supports third-party materials without risk of degradation or leakage. The trade-off is print speed, so we recommend the standard tank whenever your material allows it.
Both resin tanks have a lifespan of 75,000+ layers (approximately 200 prints at 37 mm tall, at 100 µm layer height). Every tank comes with a reusable lid that protects resin from light and debris when it's out of the printer, and lets you stack tanks for compact storage. If you run multiple resins, we recommend keeping a dedicated tank per material, so switching is as simple as swapping in a new cartridge and its matching tank.
The Technology Behind Form Studio 1
For Form Studio 1, we built on the technology behind Form 4. At its core is the Low Force Display (LFD) Print Engine, with updated subsystems:
-
Automatic Resin Handling. Hands-free, fast, accurate dispensing with minimal waste and glove-free material swapping. Unlike printers that require manual pouring, Form Studio 1 dispenses and refills tanks in minutes while monitoring cartridge volume and verifying that the cartridge and tank materials match, so you'll never start a print you can't finish.
-
Intelligent Control Systems. Five integrated systems precisely control temperature, resin level, print forces, and print status, including a camera and lighting for remote monitoring, troubleshooting, and time-lapse video.
-
Flexible Film Resin Tanks. Designed to reduce the forces exerted on parts during printing.
-
Release Texture V2. An updated proprietary microtextured optical film surrounded by perimeter channels that increase airflow and passively reduce print forces — faster prints without compromising surface finish, fine feature resolution, accuracy, or reliability.
-
Light Processing Unit Studio 1 (LPU S1). Precisely masks light from the backlight unit into the shape of each layer. Long-lasting at 750K–1.5M layers of consistent performance, with an aluminum frame, top surface coating, and smart software to protect against accidental damage. When replacement is needed, a tool stored inside the printer makes it easy.
-
Backlight Unit. 28 LEDs with a plano-convex lens array deliver uniform, fully collimated light at 6 mW/cm² across the entire print plane. Most low-cost resin printers use a single COB light source with a Fresnel lens, producing uneven exposure and poorly collimated light that strikes pixels at an angle. The result: crisp details and clean edges no matter where parts sit on the build platform.
We test every component extensively — from the optics and motion system to the tanks — to make sure each part of the printer stands up to demanding use.
Effortless Part Removal With Build Platform Flex
Tired of scraping parts off a build platform? Form Studio 1 Build Platform Flex with Quick Release Technology removes parts from the print surface in seconds, without tools. Just squeeze, and they come right off. Recommended for almost all prints, it eliminates the risk of damaging your part and streamlines your workflow.
Build Platform Flex comes with the Flex Package or can be purchased separately.
Compact Post-Processing With Form Studio Wash+Cure
After printing, resin parts must be post-processed. Form Studio Wash+Cure is a compact, all-in-one washing and curing station that completes the Form Studio 1 ecosystem, enabling affordable post-processing of your resin 3D prints.
The Form Studio Wash+Cure has two modes in one compact desktop unit.

Washing mode. All resin 3D printed parts need washing to remove residual resin. Form Studio Wash+Cure agitates IPA or alternative solvents* around parts for thorough, efficient cleaning. When washing is done, simply raise the internal basket out of the solvent to let parts air-dry and avoid over-soaking, which can warp prints.

Curing mode. Open the cover, remove the bucket, install the turntable, and you're ready. Using 405 nm light, Wash+Cure completes the chemical reaction started during printing, boosting strength, toughness, heat resistance, and creep resistance, and leaving a harder, less tacky surface. Parts printed in Alpha Resins are skin-safe once post-processed per Formlabs guidelines.
*Form Wash+Cure is compatible with IPA, TPM, and Resin Washing Solution.
