Formlabs at MAD NYC

We’ve been looking forward to the Out of Hand digital fabrication exhibition at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City, since it was announced in June.  We’re really excited to be part of the OUT OF HAND/HANDS ON workshop hosted by our 3D-printing friends at Shapeways! They've set up an interactive, education space, equipped with 3D scanners, computers and a trio of Form 1 3D printers.

The exhibition is a fantastic collection of 3D-printed art and science–showcasing everything from Richard Dupont’s warped 3D scans and Marc Newson’s algorithmically-designed crystal jewelry, to Bespoke Innovations’ custom prosthetic limbs and Dita von Teese’s fully-articulated 3D-printed gown.

Visitors will be able to work directly with Shapeways’ Designers in Residence, as well as experience interactive 3D apps put together by imaging and design companies, including our buddies at Nervous System. A 3D scanner from Occipital Labs will shoot a scan of a visitor directly to one of our own Form 1s, and by the time they leave (if they can tear themselves away), they’ll have a high-resolution 3D-printed model of themselves to take as a souvenir.

We’re honored to be a part of Out of Hand, and we hope you’ll stop by the exhibit if you’re in New York City anytime from tomorrow through April 2014!
