Today marks an exciting day for Formlabs — we are acquiring Micronics, a 3D printing startup whose Kickstarter campaign created a groundswell of interest and support for its desktop SLS printer, the Micron.
Micronics’ two founders, Henry Chan and Luke Boppart, will be joining Formlabs to develop the next generation of accessible SLS 3D printers, bringing their knowledge and creativity to our established team of engineers and designers.
This also means that the Micronics team will be canceling their Kickstarter campaign and refunding all backers. In addition to the refund, anyone who backed a Micron will receive a $1,000 credit to Formlabs to use towards a purchase of any current or future printer as well as a free Open Materials License. Furthermore, while stock lasts, the Fuse 1 will be offered at $9,999 to any Micron backer, and the $1,000 discount may be applied to this purchase. Micron backers can claim their Formlabs credit here. A member of our team will reach out to begin the process for purchasing the Fuse 1 at $9,999.

This is an extremely exciting day but we also recognize that members of both the Micronics and Formlabs communities will likely have questions about what the acquisition means for them and the future of SLS 3D printing. Below is a video interview between Formlabs CEO Max Lobovsky and Micronics CEO Henry Chan that discusses the acquisition, the details of the Kickstarter cancellation and their shared mission of making SLS technology more accessible.
We can’t wait to build amazing products with our new team members and we can’t wait to see what ideas you bring to life with them. Here are a few more resources that you can check out to learn more about the next steps of the acquisition.
