Using Permanent Crown Resin

Permanent Crown Resin is a tooth-colored resin for 3D printing of permanent crown restorations, inlays, onlays and veneers. Digitally created restorations enable a quick, collaborative process between dentist, technician, and patient.

Available in four VITA* Classical shades, this material can be characterized with glaze and composite stains. Permanent Crown Resin's high flexural strength and modulus enable excellent dimensional stability and strength.

Permanent Crown Resin prints at 50 microns.

Scan

In order to 3D print an impression tray, use a scanner to collect anatomical data of the patient’s dentition. Either scan the patient directly with an intraoral scanner, or use a desktop optical scanner to scan a polyvinyl siloxane (PVS) impression or stone model.

Design

Use a dental CAD software package to process and design the restoration before printing. Choose software that offers open STL file export.

Feature requirements

Minimum thickness (single crowns, inlays, onlays, veneers): 1.0 mm

Print

Notice:

Install or update PreForm, then set up the next print job.

To prepare a model for printing in PreForm:

  1. Open a model.
  2. Select the resin, resin version, and the desired layer thickness.
  3. Orient to preserve fine details.
  4. Generate supports.
  5. Send the print job to the printer.

Orient the restoration horizontally, with the occlusal plane facing the build platform.

Finish

The Form Wash agitates the solvent bath and removes parts from the bath after a set time. Wash parts according to the support article Form Wash time settings. Pay particular attention to information that affects mechanical properties or biocompatibility requirements.

If the model is hollow or has internal channels, ensure liquid resin is flushed out thoroughly from these features using a skirt bottle filled with 99% isopropyl alcohol (IPA). Use compressed air to allow parts to fully dry before post-curing.

Post-curing requirements

Permanent Crown Resin requires post-curing to reach its optimal mechanical properties. Refer to the support article Form Cure time and temperature settings for post-curing recommendations.

Step 1: Post-cure with raft and supports still attached

Leave supports and rafts in place for the first post-cure.

Step 2: Remove supports

After post-curing, remove supports. Carefully sandblast part surfaces to remove the white coating. Check the fit and contour parts as needed using a dental handpiece.

Step 3: Post-cure with supports removed

Post-cure parts again according to the support article Form Cure time and temperature settings with the occlusal plane facing upward.

Step 4: Polish parts

Polish post-cured parts using pumice stone and polishing compound.
