Starting January 12, 2026, all new Form 4B and Form 4BL printer packages include Open Material Mode (OMM) by default*. With Open Material Mode, you can print with most 385 and 405 nm photopolymer resin on Formlabs SLA printers, giving you greater flexibility with third-party materials. Please note that if you print with OMM, Light Processing Unit wear and damage will not be covered under your warranty. For more information, see our article on Understanding Light Processing Unit lifetime (Form 4 and Form 4L generation).
Formlabs does not develop or validate print settings for third-party resins. Below is a list of third-party dental resins whose manufacturers have gone through their internal development process and provided print settings for Form 4B and Form 4BL printers with Open Material Mode. Several additional resin manufacturers currently have settings development in progress, but Formlabs does not have control over the timelines and cannot commit to any specific dates.
Notice:
When printing third-party resins with Open Material Mode, resin must be manually poured into the tank. Print settings are supported by the resin manufacturer, not Formlabs, so consult their documentation for instructions and any questions. For biocompatible applications, always follow the resin manufacturer’s instructions for use and/or manufacturing guidelines to ensure compliant printing and post-processing.
*Users who purchased a Form 4B or Form 4BL package before January 12, 2026 need to purchase the OMM capability separately.

Note:
Formlabs sells and has validated print settings for specific shades of BEGO™ VarseoSmile® TriniQ® Resin. This is currently the only third-party resin for which Formlabs has formally validated settings. These are available in Preform. To print with other shades with OMM, start by copying the existing Formlabs BEGO™ VarseoSmile® TriniQ® Resin print settings.
