Resin Printing with Confidence

Low VOC Emissions
The Alpha Resins are the first resin printing materials to achieve UL GREENGUARD Gold*, an independent standard certifying low VOC emissions for homes, offices, schools, and other indoor environments. This certification is for the printing process - not just for a final part.

Skin-Safe Parts
Post-processed parts meet requirements for long-term (>30 day) skin contact, in accordance with ISO 10993, meaning they can be used in wearables and high-contact applications.

Minimize Risks
Liquid resin scored as non-skin irritant according to OECD 439, a standard commonly used in cosmetics industry, to minimize the risks from incidental skin contact with resin.

Low-Odor Components
Formulated using low-odor chemicals, ensuring a pleasant printing experience.

FAQ
Alpha Model Resin is the highest-detail material in the Formlabs Alpha Resin Family. It prints at a 30 or 50 μm layer heights for the finest features and most matte finish of any Alpha Resin. Its deep, neutral surface captures every crevice and texture, which makes it the go-to choice for anyone looking for a 3D printer material for models, minis, figurines, and sculptures.
Yes. Alpha Model Resin is built for printing minis and terrain pieces that last. It resolves the finest features for crisp faces, textures, and accessories. Thin features flex instead of snapping, so miniatures survive painting, handling at the gaming table, transport, and drops.
Alpha Model Resin is well suited for these projects:
- Sculptures, busts, and figurines with exceptional detail and contrast
- Intricate models that take paint evenly
- Miniatures and terrain pieces
- Scale models with life-like detail
Yes. For hobbyists who want a 3D printer for home, Alpha Model Resin combines top-tier detail with low-odor components. Alpha Resins are also the first resin printing materials certified UL GREENGUARD Gold for low VOC emissions (when printed on Form Studio 1 with VOC Extractor). That makes resin printing comfortable in living spaces, hobby rooms, and shared workspaces.
Yes. Alpha Model Resin has a deep, fully matte, neutral surface that takes paint evenly. The finish shows fine detail clearly before painting and gives painters a consistent base for layering, washes, and dry brushing.
Yes. Alpha Model Resin combines fine-feature resolution with dimensional accuracy, so multi-part models like kits, busts, and articulated figures assemble precisely.
No. Thin features like swords, spears, antennae, and fingers flex instead of snapping. Finished models hold up to painting, transport, and accidental drops, and post-processed parts show a 24% elongation at break.
Alpha Model Resin averages 13 mm/h at its 50 μm layer height, trading speed for maximum detail.
Alpha Model Resin offers the best fine features and most matte finish in the family. Alpha Black, White, Grey, and Clear balance speed and aesthetics at 100 μm, averaging 40 mm/h. Alpha Fast Resin prints fastest, up to 130 mm/h, for rapid prototyping. Choose Alpha Model when detail and paintability matter most, as they do for miniatures, figurines, and display models.
Alpha Model Resin uses low-odor components. Alpha Resins are the first resin printing materials to achieve UL GREENGUARD Gold, an independent standard certifying low VOC emissions for homes, offices, schools, and other indoor environments, when printed on Form Studio 1 using VOC Extractor. The certification covers the printing process, not just finished parts. The liquid resin also scored as a non-skin irritant under OECD 439.
Yes. Post-processed parts meet ISO 10993 requirements for long-term (more than 30 days) skin contact, so finished models are safe to handle and can be used in wearables.
Wash parts in clean ≥90% IPA or Formlabs Resin Washing Solution. For the best surface finish, let them air dry for at least 30 minutes before handling. Post-curing is optional but recommended to reach full strength. Settings are available for Form Wash+Cure, Form Wash, Form Wash L, and Form Cure units.
Alpha Model Resin is designed for Form Studio 1.
Post-Processing
Washing
The foundational step in any SLA post-processing workflow is to remove any excess resin on the surface of the parts through a solvent wash.
Use clean ≥ 90% IPA, or use Formlabs Resin Washing Solution.
For the best surface finish, Formlabs recommends allowing parts printed in Alpha Resins to air dry for at least 30 minutes after washing, before handling.

Curing
Post-curing Alpha Resins is optional, but recommended, for parts to achieve their full strength and functionality. This step completes the chemical reaction initiated during printing, transforming the part from its green state into a fully finished component.
