BioMed Durable Resin is a transparent, impact-resistant SLA 3D printing material developed for medical and biocompatible applications. It is designed for end-use devices where performance, shatter resistance, and abrasion resistance are critical requirements.

BioMed Durable Resin is USP Class VI certified. It is suitable for long-term skin contact (more than 30 days), mucosal membrane contact (more than 30 hours), and short-term tissue, bone, and dentin contact (less than 24 hours). Its USP Class VI status also makes it appropriate for pharmaceutical and drug delivery applications.

BioMed Durable Resin is produced at a Formlabs FDA-registered facility in Ohio. The facility operates under an ISO 13485 and EU MDR certified Quality Management System, with dedicated operators and quality assurance professionals working inside a certified ISO Class 8 clean room. BioMed Durable Resin is well suited for patient-specific instruments (PSI), single-use surgical instruments, and end-use devices or components that require both biocompatibility and impact resistance. It enables point-of-care production of procedure-specific medical devices aimed at improving patient outcomes and reducing operating time.

BioMed Durable Resin achieves a Notched Izod rating of 98 J/m and an Unnotched Izod rating of 1340 J/m, making it a high-toughness option within the Formlabs medical materials library. Additional mechanical properties include an Ultimate Tensile Strength of 29.1 MPa, an Elongation at Break of 33%, and a Shore Hardness of 75D.

Parts printed with BioMed Durable Resin are transparent and have a very smooth surface finish, giving them the look and feel of end-use medical components.

BioMed Durable Resin is compatible with the Form 4B, Form 4BL, Form 3B, and Form 3BL printers. It is available in cartridges sized for both the Form 4 and Form 3 printer series.

After printing, parts must be washed to remove uncured resin from the surface using either a Formlabs-validated wash unit or an ultrasonic wash unit. Post-curing is also required for biocompatible materials to meet the safety standards set by regulatory agencies.
