Why Choose Alumina 4N Resin?

Alumina 4N Resin is a 99.99% pure alumina technical ceramic with 98.6% relative density, and exceptional thermal, mechanical, and conductive properties — comparable to traditionally manufactured alumina (Al2O3).

Ceramic 3D Printing Made Accessible

The most affordable and easiest-to-use ceramic 3D printer in the world. Over 10x lower starting price compared to the leading alternatives.

Unprecedented Design Freedom

Fabricate ceramic components with intricate internal channels, latticed structures, and complex geometries that are impossible with traditionally manufactured alumina. Optimize parts without sacrificing quality or performance.

Shortened Turnaround Time and Reduced Costs

Ditch expensive tooling and molds for reduced production costs and a quicker end-to-end process for a faster development cycle overall.

Extreme Performance

Reliable in extreme applications with a max working temperature of 1500°C, maintaining an impressive flexural strength of over 400 MPa in addition to resisting compression and deflection with a modulus of 380 GPa.

Applications

Alumina 4N Resin is a cost and time-effective solution for fabricating high-performance parts for extreme environments. Parts printed in Alumina 4N Resin serve as good heat and electrical insulators, heavy-duty tools, as well as chemically resistant and wear-resistant components. They are used in industries such as defense, manufacturing, chemicals, and automotive.

FAQ

Alumina 4N Resin is a 99.99% pure technical ceramic 3D printing material with 98.6% relative density. It delivers exceptional thermal, mechanical, and chemical performance comparable to traditionally manufactured alumina, while enabling complex geometries such as internal channels and latticed structures that are impossible to achieve with conventional ceramic manufacturing methods.

Sintered parts achieve a flexural strength of 400 MPa, a tensile modulus of 390,000 MPa, and a coefficient of thermal expansion of 5 ppm/K. The maximum working temperature is 1500 °C. You can download the full Alumina 4N Resin Technical Data Sheet for complete specifications.

The material is well suited for defense, manufacturing, chemicals, and automotive applications. Typical parts include high-voltage enclosures and connector housings, spark plug insulators, insulating tubes, manifold pipes, mixing blades, and foundry tools such as crucibles, thermocouple sheaths, and metal filters.

Alumina 4N Resin requires a complex, multi-day workflow. After SLA printing on a compatible printer, parts must be washed in Ceramic Wash Solution, fully dried, and then fired in a kiln through multi-day burnout and sintering cycles. UV post-curing is not required. Formlabs provides detailed guidance in the Alumina 4N Resin Quick Start Guide.

No. Parts must be washed using the dedicated Ceramic Wash Solution. Contact with isopropyl alcohol or water can cause parts to crack. A 5 L bottle of Ceramic Wash Solution is available as an accessory directly from Formlabs.

Yes. Ceramic parts shrink during sintering, so CAD models must be scaled to compensate for the dimensional changes that occur during the burnout and sintering process. Formlabs provides design guidelines covering this in the Designing Parts for Ceramic Alumina 4N Resin guide.

Beyond the printer itself, you will need a dedicated wash setup with Ceramic Wash Solution and a kiln capable of reaching the temperatures required for burnout and sintering. Refer to the Recommended Tools and Supplies for Ceramic Alumina 4N Resin guide for a complete list.

Alumina 4N Resin is compatible with Form 4, Form 4B, Form 3, and Form 3B printers. Compatible tanks include the Form 4 Resin Tank and Form 3 Resin Tank V2.1. Compatible build platforms include the Form 4 Build Platform, Form 4 Flex Build Platform, and Form 3 Stainless Steel Build Platform.

Alumina 4N Resin has a total shelf life of 3 months when stored at room temperature. Refrigerating the resin at -25 to 4 °C can extend shelf life by up to an additional 12 months.

Pricing varies based on volume, and Formlabs offers tiered bulk order discounts starting at quantities of 30 L.
