This article summarizes the changes for each version of PreForm, the print preparation software. Review the firmware release notes to learn more about the improvements that come with each firmware release.

PreForm 3.57.2 — March 31, 2026

This release updates the print settings for Tough 1000 Resin V1 and Tough 2000 Resin V2 at 100 microns for Form 4L generation printers.

• Print settings updates:
• Promoted the Supports V1 print setting to Default (V2.0) for Tough 2000 Resin V2 at 100 microns for Form 4L generation printers. The previous Default (V1.1) print setting has been renamed to Supports V2.
• Promoted the Supports V1 print setting to Default (V2.0) for Tough 1000 Resin V1 at 100 microns for Form 4L generation printers. The previous Default (V1.1) print setting has been renamed to Supports V2.

PreForm 3.57.1 — March 24, 2026

This release fixes bugs related to Windows auto-update preferences and the Hole tool.

PreForm 3.57.0 — March 18, 2026

This release introduces user controls that can enhance print accuracy on SLA and SLS platforms, as well as a variety of bug fixes and print settings updates.

• New features:
• Minimum Layer Time (Fuse 1 generation): Set a minimum time to have more consistent layer times and control thermal build-up, simplifying print process development for third-party materials through Open Material Mode. Minimum Layer Time is accessible from the Print Settings Editor.
• Z-Bleed Compensation enhancements (Form 4 and Form 4L generation): Updated implementation to protect large overhangs while still improving print accuracy on bottom-facing surfaces and threads. Z-Bleed Compensation is accessible from the Print Settings Editor.

• Promoted Reduced Support Density print setting (V2.0) to Default for Tough 2000 Resin V2 at 100 microns for Form 4 generation printers. The previous Default print setting (V1.1) has been renamed to Supports V2.

PreForm 3.56.2 — March 5, 2026

This release contains various bug fixes and an update to print setting options for Tough 2000 V2 Resin at 100 microns for Form 4 generation printers.

PreForm 3.56.1 — February 26, 2026

This release contains various bug fixes and an update to print setting options for Tough 2000 V2 Resin at 100 microns for Form 4 generation printers.

• Print settings updates:
• Removed the Reduced Support Density preset support option for Tough 2000 V2 Resin at 100 microns for Form 4 generation printers due to redundancy with the Default setting.
• Bug fixes:
• Resolved an issue where Form 3B+ printers were not appearing in the printer list.
• Fixed a problem causing the Layout tools to malfunction for Form 3/3B/3+/3B+ printers.
• Addressed a bug in the Print Settings Editor (PSE) where fields containing arrays were disappearing.

PreForm 3.56.0 — February 24, 2026

This release updates the system requirements for macOS. It also introduces new print settings for Tough 1500 Resin V2 on Form 4L generation printers and for Tough 1000 Resin, Tough 1500 Resin V2, and Tough 2000 Resin V2 on Form 4 generation printers.

• Announcements:
• This version of PreForm has updated system requirements for macOS. You now require macOS 13 or higher. There has been no change for Windows. Some macOS users may encounter an increased load time during the first application launch following the update. This is a one-time initialization process; standard startup performance will resume thereafter.
• Print settings updates:
• New Reduced Support Density print setting (V2.0) for Tough 2000 Resin V2 at 100 microns for Form 4 generation printers. This setting uses fewer and larger touchpoints compared to the Default setting.

PreForm 3.55.1 — January 28, 2026

PreForm 3.55.0 — January 13, 2026

This release introduces a new Print Settings Editor parameter for Form 4 and Form 4L generation printers and a variety of new Supports V2-based Reduced Density presets.

• Z-Bleed Compensation: Print fine features like threads and overhangs with increased precision. Available as a setting in the Print Settings Editor (Form 4 and Form 4L generation only).

• Fixed issue where the model Replace function would fail on subsequent attempts.
• Fixed issue where some FORM files with models imported from CAD could not be opened after adding part cages in PreForm 3.54.

PreForm 3.54.1 — December 9, 2025

This release introduces new print settings for Tough 1000 Resin V1 on Form 4L generation printers and Tough 200 Resin V2 on Form 4 generation printers. It also includes a firmware update for Form Cure V2 and Form Cure L V2.

PreForm 3.54.0 — November 18, 2025

This release introduces a new measurement tool, improved scene viewing controls, and model grouping for SLA. It also introduces several new SLA Print Settings Editor parameters.

• Announcements:
• Updated macOS requirements: Starting with PreForm 3.54.0, PreForm now requires macOS 12 or later.
• Sunsetting command line support: Most command line functionality has been removed. The only remaining support will be for launching PreForm from the command line and automatically loading models or FORM files.
• New features:
• Tough 2000 Resin V2: Manufacture rugged parts that rival the performance of ABS. 3x higher fracture toughness and improved temperature and creep resistance compared to the previous generation with a rich, dark, matte appearance.
• Tough 1000 Resin: Manufacture impact-resistant parts that rival the performance of HDPE. 5x fracture toughness, 3x impact strength, and 3x elongation at break compared to Durable Resin.
• Supports V2: Get higher quality, more reliable parts with less work. • When changing views with the Viewer Cube, you can now frame just the selected part or the entire build volume. Pick your preferred behavior in the View menu.

PreForm 3.53.0 — October 21, 2025

This release introduces a new measurement tool, improved scene viewing controls, and model grouping for SLA. It also introduces several new SLA Print Settings Editor parameters.

• Announcements:
• Updated macOS requirements: Starting with PreForm 3.54.0, PreForm will require macOS 12 or later to run.
• Sunsetting command line support: Starting with PreForm 3.54.0, most command line functionality will be removed. The only remaining support will be for launching PreForm from the command line and automatically loading models or FORM files.
• New features:
• Measure tool: Quickly validate dimensions and clearances by measuring precise distances between any two points in your scene, with ΔX, ΔY, and ΔZ components in the summary panel. Hold Shift to snap to mesh vertices for accuracy. Eliminates the need to switch to external CAD software for simple dimensional checks.
• Viewer cube: Navigate the scene and quickly jump to standard orthographic views.
• Model grouping for SLA: Organize parts in the model list by grouping them. This builds on the grouping feature we released for SLS last year.
• Improvements:
• New SLA Print Settings Editor parameters:
• New squish parameters: Directly modify the Formlabs smart squish algorithm. This allows for much more robust tuning of the squish phase to eliminate print problems or increase the speed.
• Resin LevelSense: Control the level at which the printer throws a low resin warning. This will also change the level that the printer keeps the resin tank filled to for Formlabs materials.
• Resin viscosity: Input the resin viscosity for a print. This can impact some print behaviors.
• Bug fixes:
• Fixed several issues with the new Support flyout to ensure it correctly respects selected settings.
• Fixed a crash that could occur when selecting support profiles in the new Support flyout.
• Fixed missing FORM file thumbnails on Windows.
• Fixed incorrect mesh selection behavior when slicing along the X- or Y-axis.
• Various minor UI improvements and fixes.

• Keyboard shortcuts for the new Support flyout are not displayed in the shortcut dialog, but hovering over the button will display the shortcut.

PreForm 3.52.1 — September 25, 2025

This release introduces new functions to fill the build with models, expands the Slicer tool to let you examine your models along the X-, Y-, and Z-axes, and adds support for importing CAD assembly files. It also introduces a streamlined interface for the new Supports tool.

  • New Support tool: Gain precise control over support generation with presets, customizable touchpoint generators, and comprehensive support structure customization. Use the new flexible visibility controls to inspect models and supports.
  • Section in all axes: Inspect internal geometry, complex support structures, and packed build volumes with confidence. Use the Slicer tool to see inside your model from any orthogonal direction, ensuring a perfect print every time. This is perfect for verifying internal support placement while you work, as the slice view is active while you move, rotate, or edit supports.
  • Fill the Build: Maximize throughput and minimize setup time for both SLA and SLS printers. Automatically populate the entire build platform or build chamber with as many copies of a selected part as can fit, turning a tedious manual layout task into a single click. Fine-tune your layout with advanced controls for part spacing, rotation, and even raft overlap (SLA) to achieve maximum packing density.
  • CAD assembly import: Import assembly files and split them into individual parts.

• CAD import settings: Configure tessellation options for CAD imports.
• Print time estimator control: Toggle the real-time print time estimator on/off to improve performance on demanding print jobs. Disable real-time print time estimator updates through File > Preferences to prevent interface lag while maintaining estimation accuracy when needed.

  • New Default print setting (V1.2) for Precision Model Resin V1 at 50 microns for Form 4 and Form 4L generation printers with improved dental die fitting.

• Fixed an intermittent crash that could occur during cup detection in printability checks.

• Fixed an issue where parts imported into the dental workspace could have an incorrect orientation.

  • The support generation keyboard shortcut does not correctly apply updated settings. It reuses the last settings submitted via the button, ignoring any subsequent changes.
  • The last-used touch tip size in the Manual Placement tab is reset when supports are generated.

This release introduces a revamped SLA supports tool, allowing for precise control over touchpoint locations, streamlined manual placement, and support structure customization.

• Precise control over touchpoint locations: Adjust touchpoint placement by customizing the Minima, Overhangs, Stabilization, and Reinforcement touchpoint generators.
• Streamlined manual placement: The Support Brush is now in its own dedicated tab for easier access for power users.
• Support structure customization: Precisely control how support structures are created, from touchpoint properties to pillar and raft parameters.
• Support visibility control: Inspect supported models without the support geometry getting in the way. Instantly toggle between showing the model with supports, transparent supports or only touchpoints.
• Improvements:
• Bundled Supports turned on by default: PreForm will cluster support pillars into bundles that can be easily removed during post processing. Bundled Supports are turned on by default for select materials and layer thicknesses.
