Copying a model in PreForm

Copying a model in PreForm

There are multiple options for creating copies of a model in PreForm:

  • a single copy with shared properties
  • multiple copies with shared properties
  • multiple copies with shared properties in a grid layout
  • multiple copies to completely fill the build platform (SLA) or build chamber (SLS)
  • multiple copies to fill the build chamber up to the highest point of the selected model (SLS)

Creating a single copy with shared properties

To create a single model copy with Duplicate:

  1. Select a model in PreForm. Manipulators are overlaid on the model.
  2. Right-click the selected model. A menu appears.
  3. Select Duplicate. A single, exact copy of the selected model appears.

Note:

Duplicate copies the orientation and support structure of the original model.

Creating multiple copies with shared properties

To create multiple model copies with Duplicate Count:

  1. Select a model in PreForm. Manipulators are overlaid on the model.
  2. Click Layout. The view shifts to a top-down angle and the Layout dialogue box opens.
  3. To choose the number of copies, do one of the following:
    • Enter a number into the Duplicate Count field.
    • Click an arrow in the Duplicate Count field.
    • Hover the pointer over the Duplicate Count field and use the scroll wheel.
  4. Click Create. The selected number of copies appear.

Creating multiple copies with shared properties in a grid layout

PreForm quickly arranges multiple copies of a model in a grid layout with Array, duplicating the support structure and orientation of the original model.

Tip:

As you work with Array, PreForm shows a preview. Click the central Home icon to return to the default view.

To create multiple model copies with Array:

  1. Select a model in PreForm.
  2. Click Layout. The Layout dialog box appears.
  3. Click Array Models.... The Array dialog box and three additional copies of the model appear in lighter color. If no additional copies appear, click Cancel, then adjust the size or layout of the model.
  4. To adjust the model count, do one of the following:
    • Enter the number of copies into the Count field.
    • Click an arrow in the Count field.
  5. To adjust the spacing between copies, do one of the following:
    • Enter a number into the Spacing field.
    • Click an arrow in the Spacing field.
  6. Click Apply. The selected number of copies appear.

Note:

Array copies the orientation and support structure of the original model.

Creating multiple copies to fill the build platform or build chamber

PreForm completely fills the build platform or build chamber with multiple copies of a model with Fill Build Platform and Fill Build Chamber, respectively.

To create multiple model copies with Fill Build Platform or Fill Build Chamber:

  1. Select one or more models in PreForm.
  2. Orient and support the model(s) as needed.
  3. Click Layout. The Layout dialog box appears.
  4. Set your desired layout parameters.
  5. Click Fill Build Platform. PreForm fills the build platform with copies of the selected model. If you selected multiple different models, PreForm creates an equal number of copies of each model.
  1. Select one or more models in PreForm.
  2. Click Pack. The Pack dialog box appears.
  3. Set your desired layout parameters.
  4. Click Fill Build Chamber. PreForm fills the build chamber with copies of the selected model. If you selected multiple different models, PreForm creates an equal number of copies of each model.

Creating multiple copies to fill the build chamber to a specified height (SLS)

PreForm can fill the build chamber up to a specific height with multiple copies of a model with Copy & Fill Gaps.

To create multiple model copies with Copy & Fill Gaps:

  1. Select one or more models in PreForm.
  2. Position and orient the model(s) as needed.
  3. Click Pack. The Pack dialog box appears.
  4. Set your desired layout parameters.
  5. Click Copy & Fill Gaps. PreForm fills the build chamber with copies of the selected model up to the position of the highest selected model. If you selected multiple different models, PreForm creates an equal number of copies of each model.
