The Form 4 build platform has a plastic handle that slides onto to build platform mount in the printer, allowing the build platform to be locked in place during printing. If the handle is damaged or broken, the build platform cannot be used.
Use this guide to remove and replace the handle on a Form 4 build platform.

Required Supplies:
Estimated time: 5–10 minutes, plus time to print the build platform handle
Preparing the workspace
Overview: Prepare the build platform and a dust-free workspace for replacing the build platform handle.
Step 1: Prepare the new build platform handle
If you have another build platform available, download the replacement build platform handle model. Print and post-process the part, making sure to fully remove any supports from the inner surfaces of the handle.
Step 2: Prepare the workspace
Clear a workspace. Ensure that the workspace is well-ventilated and free of dust.
Step 3: Clean the build platform
WARNING:
Resin may cause skin irritation or an allergic skin reaction. Wear gloves when handling liquid resin or resin-coated surfaces. Wash skin with plenty of soap and water.
Clean any resin on the build platform with paper towels. Dampen the paper towels with isopropyl alcohol if necessary to fully remove the resin.
DANGER:
Fire hazard. IPA is flammable. Keep containers closed, and keep out of the reach of children.
Removing the build platform handle
Overview: Separate the original handle from the build platform.
Step 1: Remove the build platform handle retention screw

The build platform handle is secured to the build platform body using a single T8 Torx screw, located inside the handle. Using a T8 Torx driver, loosen and remove the screw.
Step 2: Remove the build platform handle

Slide the handle towards the front of the build platform until it is free of the two tabs on the build platform body. Lift the handle upward, directly away from the build platform body. Discard the handle.
Installing the replacement build platform handle
Overview: Mount and secure the new build platform handle.
Step 1: Mount the build platform handle

Align the build platform handle behind the tabs on the build platform body and press down firmly until the sides of the handle are touching the build platform body. Slide the handle towards the rear of the build platform until the handle fully covers the tabs.
Step 2: Secure the build platform handle
Thread the build platform handle into the screw hole in the handle. If needed, use tweezers to help position the screw. Using a T8 Torx driver, tighten until finger tight.
NOTICE:
Do not overtighten. Overtightening the build platform handle retention screw can damage the handle or its mounting point.
Finalizing the repair
Overview: After installing the new build platform handle, insert it into a printer and ensure that it locks in place.
Step 1: Insert the build platform into a printer
Open the printer cover and lift the build platform latch. Align the build platform with the build platform mount and push it into place. Lower the latch to secure the build platform. Check that the build platform stays locked in place. Contact Formlabs Support or your authorized reseller to share the results of the procedure.
