Nylon 12 Tough Powder residue buildup on printer (Fuse 1+ 30W)
Explanation
When printing with Nylon 12 Tough Powder, a small amount of material is vaporized and will condense in the exhaust of the printer. The residue is a dark orange or brown liquid with the consistency of thick molasses. This is known and expected when printing a significant amount of Nylon 12 Tough Powder, but it does not impact the performance of the material or the printer. The printer’s exhaust filter prevents the residue from leaving the printer, so there is no need to add additional ventilation during operation.
Cleaning residue buildup
To clean the residue:
- Allow the printer to completely cool. The build chamber or print enclosure should be less than 50 °C before opening the filter cabinet door to prevent any hot air, fumes, or powder from exiting the printer.
- Wear gloves while cleaning the exhaust port to avoid skin contact.
- Use a soft cloth or a paper towel wetted with IPA, ethanol, or methanol to wipe away any residue that has built up.
- Replace the exhaust filter if it is visibly clogged with the Nylon 12 Tough Powder residue. Do not soak the filter in solvent to clean it as this will damage the filter.
