Replacing the Form Cure (1st Generation) display assembly

The Form Cure display assembly includes the display and the knob. If the display or the knob stops functioning, replace the display assembly to restore functionality.

Use this guide to replace the Form Cure display assembly.

Preparing the workspace

Overview: Prepare the Form Cure and a level workspace for replacing the display assembly.

CAUTION:

Wear gloves when handling parts and surfaces that have come into contact with solvents or liquid resin.

Step 1: Disconnect from power

Disconnect the Form Cure from its power source.

Step 2: Move the unit

Move the unit to a well-ventilated area. Set the unit and the replacement display assembly on a level surface for easy access.

Step 3: Open the cover

Lift the cover. Allow the cover to rest on top of the unit.

Step 4: Remove the turntable and coupling

Remove the turntable. To remove the coupling, twist the disc to the left and pull up.

Set aside the turntable and coupling for reassembly.

Removing the bottom plate

Overview: Close the cover and turn the unit over to rest on its top. Unscrew the outer screws in the bottom plate to remove it.

Step 1: Turn the unit over

Close the cover and turn the unit over so that it rests on its top and the bottom plate faces up.

Step 2: Remove the outer screws

Turn the 2.5 mm hex key counterclockwise to remove the eight screws around the bottom plate edge. There are two screws along the top edge, three screws on the left edge, and three screws on the right edge. Set aside the bottom plate and the eight screws for reassembly.

NOTICE:

Do not remove the two screws in the center of the bottom plate. The center screws secure the base assembly.

Replacing the display assembly

Overview: Remove the display assembly and disconnect the ribbon cable from the display assembly and the motherboard. Connect the ribbon cable to the new display assembly and the motherboard. Insert the new display assembly.

Step 1: Remove the display assembly

Pull evenly to slide out the display assembly.

Step 2: Disconnect the ribbon cable

Disconnect the ribbon cable connector from the back of the damaged display assembly.

Step 3: Connect the ribbon cable to new display assembly

Push the remaining ribbon cable connector into the back of the new display assembly. Ensure the ribbon cable connector is fully seated.

Step 4: Reseat the ribbon cable on the motherboard

Disconnect and reconnect the cable connector on the motherboard. Ensure the cable connector is fully seated.

Step 5: Insert the new display assembly

Push evenly to slide the new display assembly into the base.

Reassembling the unit

Overview: Reinstall the bottom plate. Stand the unit upright to reinstall the coupling and turntable.

Step 1: Reinstall the bottom plate

Place the bottom plate on the unit with the feet pointing upward. Insert the eight screws along the edges of the bottom plate. Turn the 2.5 mm hex key clockwise to tighten all eight screws until they are finger-tight.

Step 2: Stand the unit upright

Return the unit to the upright position.

Step 3: Open the cover

Lift the cover. Allow the cover to rest on top of the unit.

Step 4: Reinstall the turntable

Insert the coupling, twist it to the right, and push down. Gently place the turntable onto the coupling. Close the cover.

Finalizing the repair

Overview: After installing the replacement display, power on the unit and perform final checks.

Step 1: Power on the Form Cure

Connect the Form Cure to power. It should show the startup screen.

Step 2: Test the display assembly

Rotate the knob to the Start option and press the knob to select it. This activates the cure cycle and confirms that the motors respond. Contact Formlabs Support or your authorized reseller to share the results of the procedure.
