Understanding the different types of resin tanks (Form 3/Form 3B/Form 3+/Form 3B+)

There are multiple versions of the Form 3/Form 3B/Form 3+/Form 3B+ Resin Tank. You can identify the version by checking the back of the tank for a sticker or by checking the resin tank type on the touchscreen of a Form 3/Form 3B/Form 3+/Form 3B+ printer.

Note:

These features require firmware version 1.4.8 (or newer) for Form 3/Form 3+ and Form 3B/Form 3+.

To check the version of a tank that is not in a printer:

  • Insert the tank into your printer. The printer’s touchscreen will display a message indicating the version of the resin tank.

To check the version of a tank that is already in a printer:

  • Tap the printer icon. The printer’s current status appears. The resin tank section of the screen will display the tank version.

Form 3 Resin Tank V2.1

  • SKU: RT-F3-02-01
  • Prints with all resins compatible with the Form 3/Form 3+ and Form 3B/Form 3B+
  • Required for printing with Castable Wax 40 Resin
  • Features a small V2.1 sticker on the back left of the tank, above the ID chip
  • Manufacturing process change that improves the chemical characteristics of the tank’s print film.

Note:

Replaced the Resin Tank V2 as the default resin tank for the Form 3/Form 3+ and Form 3B/Form 3B+ as of January 2021. Please see formlabs.com/store for more information.

Form 3/3B tank version 2.1

Form 3 Resin Tank V2

  • SKU: RT-F3-02
  • Incompatible with Castable Wax 40 Resin
    • Form 3/Form 3B/Form 3+/Form 3B+ printers will not fill a Resin Tank V2 with Castable Wax 40 Resin.
    • Form 3/Form 3B/Form 3+/Form 3B+ printers will not allow printing with Tank V2 and Castable Wax 40 Resin.
  • Features a small V2 sticker on the back left of the tank, above the ID chip
  • Replaced the Resin Tank V1 as the default resin tank for the Form 3/Form 3+ and Form 3B/Form 3B+ as of January 2020.

Form 3 Resin Tank V1

  • SKU: RT-F3-01
  • Incompatible with ESD Resin, Castable Wax 40 Resin, IBT Resin, Rigid 10K Resin, Tough 2000 Resin, Elastic Resin, Rigid 4000 Resin, and Grey Pro Resin
    • Form 3/Form 3B printers will not fill a Resin Tank V1 with ESD Resin, Castable Wax 40 Resin, IBT Resin, Rigid 10K Resin, Tough 2000 Resin, Elastic Resin, Rigid 4000 Resin, or Grey Pro Resin.
    • Form 3/Form 3B printers will not allow printing with Tank V1 and ESD Resin, Castable Wax 40 Resin, IBT Resin, Rigid 10K Resin, Tough 2000 Resin, Elastic Resin, Rigid 4000 Resin, or Grey Pro Resin.
  • Features a small RT-F3-01 sticker on the back right of the tank, next to the tank spout.
