    Form 4 Resin Tank

Low Force Display™ (LFD) 3D printing uses a flexible yet strong dual-layer film tank for consistent, high-quality prints. Every resin tank includes a reusable lid, making it easy to stack tanks and store resin outside of the machine. With a separate tank for each individual resin color or type, switching materials is as easy as sliding in a new tank.

Resin Tanks are built to last and deliver consistent performance for at least 75,000 layers of printing — approximately 190 prints using average height model (39 mm tall), any resin, and 100 µm layer height.

    Form 4 Mixer

The Form 4 Resin Mixer improves material performance by keeping resin homogenous in the tank during the printing process. A Resin Mixer is required anytime you are printing. Resin Mixers typically last for the lifetime of your Resin Tank or more.

For convenience, we recommend having one Resin Mixer for each Form 4 Resin Tank.

    Form 3 Resin Tank V2.1

Low Force Stereolithography (LFS)™ 3D printing uses linear illumination and a flexible film tank to turn liquid resin into flawless parts. A key component of the LFS process, the strong dual-layer film at the bottom of the Form 3 Resin Tank, allows for a dynamic and precise print process.

Notice: Form 3 Resin Tank V2.1 is compatible with all Formlabs resins, but is required for use with some specific materials. There are two previous versions of the Form 3 Resin Tank, Tank V1 and Tank V2, each with their own compatibility requirements. Read more about all tank versions, compatibility, lifetime, and maintenance in our support article.

Applications*

Introduce cutting-edge patient-specific instruments (PSI) and procedure-specific medical devices at the point of care. Improve patient outcomes, reduce complications, and reduce operating time with medical devices printed in BioMed Durable Resin.

*Unlike Formlabs Dental Resins, no intended uses are provided for BioMed Resins. Material properties may vary based on part design, manufacturing practices, and other methods. It is the manufacturer’s responsibility and its respective customers and end-users to determine the biocompatibility and performance of all printed parts for their respective application and use. To instill confidence in potential users, Formlabs has tested biocompatibility for common use cases and manufactures BioMed Resins in an ISO 13485-certified facility. We can offer representative examples of what customers have done with our products and the supporting documentation we make freely available.

Washing

BioMed Durable Resin may be washed using either a Formlabs-validated wash unit (1) or an ultrasonic wash unit (2).

The foundational step in any SLA post-processing workflow is to remove excess resin on the surface of the parts through an alcohol wash. Please refer to the material's manufacturing guide/IFU for washing instructions.

FAQ

BioMed Durable Resin is a transparent, impact-resistant SLA 3D printing material developed for medical and biocompatible applications. It is designed for end-use devices where performance, shatter resistance, and abrasion resistance are critical requirements.

BioMed Durable Resin is USP Class VI certified. It is suitable for long-term skin contact (more than 30 days), mucosal membrane contact (more than 30 hours), and short-term tissue, bone, and dentin contact (less than 24 hours). Its USP Class VI status also makes it appropriate for pharmaceutical and drug delivery applications.

BioMed Durable Resin is produced at a Formlabs FDA-registered facility in Ohio. The facility operates under an ISO 13485 and EU MDR certified Quality Management System, with dedicated operators and quality assurance professionals working inside a certified ISO Class 8 clean room. All Medical Device Resins are appropriately registered with the FDA and CE marked per the EU MDR. You can view the ISO certification here.

BioMed Durable Resin is well suited for patient-specific instruments (PSI), single-use surgical instruments, and end-use devices or components that require both biocompatibility and impact resistance. It enables point-of-care production of procedure-specific medical devices aimed at improving patient outcomes and reducing operating time.

BioMed Durable Resin achieves a Notched Izod rating of 98 J/m and an Unnotched Izod rating of 1340 J/m, making it a high-toughness option within the Formlabs medical materials library. Additional mechanical properties include an Ultimate Tensile Strength of 29.1 MPa, an Elongation at Break of 33%, and a Shore Hardness of 75D.

Parts printed with BioMed Durable Resin are transparent and have a very smooth surface finish, giving them the look and feel of end-use medical components.

BioMed Durable Resin is compatible with the Form 4B, Form 4BL, Form 3B, and Form 3BL printers. It is available in cartridges sized for both the Form 4 and Form 3 printer series.

After printing, parts must be washed to remove uncured resin from the surface using either a Formlabs-validated wash unit or an ultrasonic wash unit. Post-curing is also required for biocompatible materials to meet the safety standards set by regulatory agencies. Specific settings and procedures are detailed in the BioMed Durable Resin Manufacturing Guide.

The Technical Data Sheet, Safety Data Sheet, and Certificate of Analysis (COA) are all available from Formlabs. You can download the data sheets at the Formlabs Data Sheets page or request a COA directly.
