Frequently Asked Questions
The Form 4 uses Low Force Display (LFD) technology. This advanced system features a backlight unit with 60 high-power LEDs and collimating lenses to cure resin quickly and uniformly across the entire build platform.
Most prints complete in under 2 hours, based on the 80th percentile print height of 53 mm at 100 µm layer height. Notably, print time remains consistent whether you are printing a single part or a full build platform.
The Form 4 delivers XY dimensional tolerances of ±0.15%. With a 50 µm pixel size and pre-tuned anti-aliasing, it produces parts that rival injection molded quality in detail, surface finish, and fit.
The Form 4 has been independently tested and measured at a 98.7% print success rate by a global leader in product testing, ensuring an unmatched success rate for professional workflows.
The system is designed to be highly intuitive. Most users can learn the full printing workflow in approximately 15 minutes.
The Form 4 supports a vast library of Formlabs resins, including rigid, tough, general purpose, flame retardant, silicone, elastic, biocompatible, ceramic, and castable categories. Additionally, users can utilize third-party 405 nm photopolymer resins via Open Material Mode.
Yes. The Form 4 includes an integrated camera that allows you to monitor active prints, view timelapses, and review your full print history remotely through the Formlabs Dashboard.
The Form 4 is a versatile MSLA 3D printer used across industries such as engineering, automotive, manufacturing, consumer products, aerospace, medical, and education. Common applications include rapid prototyping, production parts, manufacturing aids, and end-use parts.
Yes. The Form 4L uses the same LFD technology with a build volume 4.6× larger than the Form 4. It is capable of completing large prints — up to its entire build volume — in under 6 hours, making it ideal for larger parts and batch printing multiple parts in a single job.
After printing, parts need to be washed in IPA or the Formlabs Resin Washing Solution to remove uncured resin, then UV-cured to reach final mechanical properties. Form Wash and Form Cure automate both steps and are designed specifically for Form 4 workflows.
The Form 4 operates seamlessly with Formlabs' free print preparation resin printer software, PreForm. This software automates model orientation, support generation, and slicing, making it easy to optimize your layout before sending jobs directly to the printer.
