Why Choose Tough 1500 Resin V2?

Robust, resilient and ductile material that rivals the toughness of polypropylene.

Tougher Where It Matters

10 times higher work of fracture, so parts don’t fail when drilled, tapped, or cracked. Three times higher Gardner impact strength for thin walls that don’t shatter.

Ductile and Resilient for Long-Lasting Compliant Parts

Extremely high elongation at break (155%) and Ross flex fatigue (8,000 cycles) for features like snap fits and compliant mechanisms.

High Environmental Stability for Demanding Applications

The highest temperature and UV resistance (66 °C HDT and ~30.4% EAB* after 400 hours accelerated aging) of any high-compliance (>100% EAB) SLA material.

*When tested under ASTM D4459 Accelerated indoor aging standard.

Tough Parts That Don’t Deform Over Time

High creep resistance matching polypropylene, with less than 3% strain under 4 MPa load after 2 weeks.

Applications

Tough 1500 Resin V2 is ideal for resilient prototyping or simulating the toughness of polypropylene (PP).

Post-Processing

Washing

The foundational step in any SLA post-processing workflow is to remove any excess resin on the surface of the parts through an alcohol or ether wash.

For the best surface finish, Formlabs recommends allowing parts printed in Tough 1500 Resin V2 to air dry for at least 10 minutes after washing, before handling.

Overview

Tough 1000 Resin is a ductile, impact-resistant material with comparable strength, stiffness, and toughness to high-density polyethylene (HDPE), designed with exceptional wear and fatigue resistance for long-term toughness and utility.

The 180% elongation at break (EAB) and Gardner impact strength of 128 in-lb surpass HDPE, making it ideal for parts that bend, compress, or deform without cracking. Hinges and functional parts can handle repeated stress and wear with a work of fracture of 3,200 J/m2 and a Ross flex fatigue of >100,000 cycles (at 23 °C). With a matte, dark grey color, Tough 1000 Resin is engineered for applications that require smooth surfaces and low-friction finishes.

Tough 1000 Resin is a new material formulation that leverages the technology of Form 4 Series printers, with 5x higher fracture toughness, 2x higher EAB, and improved temperature, creep, and aging resistance compared to Durable Resin.

FAQ

Tough 1500 Resin V2 is formulated to rival the strength, stiffness, and toughness of polypropylene (PP). Its mechanical properties closely match extrusion-grade PP, including a tensile modulus of 1460 MPa and an elongation at break of 155%, which actually exceeds standard polypropylene.

The V2 formulation is a new material built to take advantage of the Form 4 Series. It delivers 10 times higher work of fracture and three times higher Gardner impact strength compared to the previous version. V2 parts also feature a flat, dark grey color, whereas V1 parts were light grey.

The material offers high creep resistance comparable to polypropylene, with less than 3% strain under a 4 MPa load after two weeks. This makes it reliable for long-term functional applications like jigs, fixtures, and enclosures that must maintain their shape under constant stress.

Yes. It offers the highest temperature and UV resistance of any high-compliance SLA material in the Formlabs library. It has a heat deflection temperature of 66 °C at 0.45 MPa and retains approximately 30.4% elongation at break after 400 hours of accelerated indoor aging (tested per ASTM D4459).

The material is well suited for functional prototypes that need to simulate polypropylene, rugged enclosures with self-tapping screw bosses and snap fits, compliant mechanisms such as latches, flexures, and dampers, and impact-resistant jigs and fixtures for production environments.

Yes. With an elongation at break of 155% and a Ross flex fatigue rating of 8,000 cycles, the material is specifically designed for features that require repeated deflection without failure, including snap fits, clasps, and compliant mechanisms.

Tough 1500 Resin V2 is optimized for a balance of stiffness and ductility, making it the right choice when parts need to flex, absorb impact, or incorporate compliant features. Tough 2000 Resin V2 is stronger and stiffer, comparable to ABS, and is better suited for heavy-duty parts that require high temperature and creep resistance with less need for compliance.

Tough 1500 Resin V2 is compatible with the Form 4, Form 4B, Form 4L, and Form 4BL printers. It works with the Form 4 Resin Tank and Form 4L Resin Tank, and supports both standard and Flex Build Platforms for each printer.

Post-processing involves two main steps. First, wash the part using isopropyl alcohol or an ether-based solution to remove uncured resin from the surface. Formlabs Form Wash or Form Wash L are both compatible. Second, post-cure the part using a Form Cure or Form Cure L unit. Post-curing is essential for parts to achieve their full strength and intended functional properties by completing the chemical reaction initiated during printing.

Wash time settings are available on the Formlabs support site for Form Wash and Form Wash L. Cure settings are available separately for Form Cure V1, Form Cure V2, Form Cure L V1, and Form Cure L V2.

Yes. Tough 1500 Resin V2 is certified safe for skin contact, provided parts are post-processed following the recommended conditions without deviation. You can download the full Technical Data Sheet for detailed specifications and testing data.
